6k to spend on a fast car that I can mod
Discussion
I'd start with a car that has already had some upgrades added so you can pick & choose what options you want to keep & the ones you don't you sell on.

You can tune an EP3 to the hills and back but it's still going to be an N/A screamer with not much low-down shove. There's nothing wrong with that btw if you like that sort of thing.
At that price, for me, it would be a MK2 Focus ST. Great noise and much more scope for getting more gains and noise of that engine. A very strong engine too with it being a Volvo unit.

Or you can Supercharge it But yes, there are better choices out of the box for tunability!
