Morning all, after having the misfortune of someone changing lanes & hitting my car just before Xmas, I’ve now had the misfortune of the wind blowing a couple of slates off my neighbours roof, which hit my car & causing damage.

The first incident is going through my insurance, the second I thought would be covered by my neighbours house insurance but that seems to not be the case & I don’t really want a 2nd claim going on my car insurance, even though neither have been my fault, you can be sure my premium will increase due to them.

So, I was wondering am I better off returning the car with the scratches & small dents to VW when my lease ends in March or getting it repaired?

I’ve seen people say that in the past it’s worked out cheaper just to pay whatever charges vw will want, rather than fork out for a repair which they may still say isn’t satisfactory done.

Any help appreciated

Sorry to hear that - bad luck re the falling slates.

As you say - its likely cheaper and less hassle to hand back and let VW fix with their (per panel) repair charges rather than get someone else to do it.

If you pay for services then MOT is your responsibility. On a maintenance inc contract check the T&C’s.

Unless it is a maintained contract, you will be personally liable for the MOT, as well as any wear and tear related repairs required to pass said examination. (In fact, all repairs if you are no longer under manufacturer warranty).

My current lease is due to go back in May but I've made enquires to keep hold.

I can continue with the same payments for up to another 2 years or buy the car. I've been contemplating getting exactly the same model but buying out right (Volvo XC60). They've offered it to me for 30k which is less than I expected however it doesn't have a couple of options I'd like if I was going to have it long term.

It needs 3 new tyres and it's first MOT before the end of the original agreement. I could use the cash over the next 12 months for other things, so if I rent it for another 12 months and it depreciates by at least the monthlies then my man maths justifies the decesion.... biggrin

I think, it all depends which panels are damanged and how bad damage is. It it's huge dent in the middle of the bonnet or across few panels, you might be charged more. It used to be £110 per panel before.I think, charge will be cheaper than future insurance increase.

Thanks, I’ve looked at my paper work & it looks like £175 a panel, it looks to me like 1 panel so I’ll be happy with that.

It’s the panel between the back door & the boot, my paper work says £175 a panel which would be much cheaper than a repair.

My neighbour has been good, he’s offered to pay any bill I get, if I was keeping the car for a year I’d have got it repaired.

Evening all!
Just saw an impending bill from LeaseplanUK for £30, no explanations as yet.(I have emailed them)
I suspect it might be for increased road tax costs, apparently it's in the lease agreement!
I am about 6 leases in and never heard of that before!
Has anyone else had this?

Yep, it’s quite normal.

Hopefully an easy answer to a kind of hypothetical question...

If a lease deal has no admin fee, what costs would be involved should I pull out of a lease deal that has a lead time of April for delivery? Am guessing it'll be a case of checking the T&Cs.

You’re dead right.

Check T&Cs for cancellation fees / costs. I have seen these from very reasonable (even free) to eye watering, so double check.

Admin fees are for setting up the lease, and are usually non refundable. If zero it doesn’t negate the cancellation fees.

Trying to sort out our third lease (2018 and 2021 were the previous), and either I've forgotten how bad it is or the level of pestering has gone through the roof.

I've spoken to three companies who both returned far higher quotes than they'd initially shown on Leasing/Leaseloco, and even after telling them I wasn't going ahead because of the price rises (one tried to charge me almost 50% more than RRP over a 3yr lease for some options!) I've had 6 missed calls from them this afternoon.

I think I'm going to sack them all off and just order a Tesla at this rate.

Fair play to your neighbour, I'd have told you to jog on. Tiles coming off the roof, especially in high winds is classed as an act of god. If someone parked outside my home and this happened to them I'd tell them as much if they knocked on my door, they chose to park there at their own risk.

Anyone got a lease with Arnold Clark? What's the best method of contact with them? Anyone have a phone number?
