We Buy Any Car - Public Service Announcement - Late Payments
Discussion
Sold my car to WBAC. Sale was fine, really easy and I was happy with the price......except they did not pay on time - contract specifies 4 working days after the transaction. The payment has just arrived as I type, 4 days late. Meanwhile my car has been sold and is up on a dealers website. No comms from them, when I chased the site where I sold the car - excuse was the V5 scan (done by them of course) was poor, hence no payment. Several emails to customer service, to complaints and to the ceo ignored. Twitter ignored, phone not answered and when it was a rude and condesending tone.
Whilst I didn't need the money quickly, no finance to settle or anything like that, for those that might - beware.
A great way to manage their cashflow, don't make a payment until the car has been sold.
Do not rely on their payment promises.

Are you sure the issue lies with WBAC and not a banking issue ?
If your sure its WBAC, I be asking for a refund on their admin fees, start a complaint with https://www.resolver.co.uk/freeadvice/services/757...

Defo their problem - poor scan of my V5 apparently, or an excuse.....anyhow, would mess you up if paying off finance or in need of the £'s swiftly.
Absolutely no response from customer service/complaints or the ceo. Customer service is not really the term to describe that!
I will write to the ceo and ask for admin fee back - I don't fancy my chances to be honest and as I said I was not in desperate need for fast payment, so I had gone for the 4 day payment option.
A shame because the valuation and sales experience had been great - I've gone from being a supporter to having to talk to trading standards and get ready to instruct a solicitor.
I'm left speculating, great way to improve cashflow - use your customers cash to fund the company - more like "we buy any car and pay much later"!

Thank you Trevor - my mind wandered to think are they going out of business? Especially given the uncertainty of C19 and what it has done to plenty of big co's.
I have seen co's fold before and when the cash stops flowing - time to worry as a creditor.....I am unsure consumer rights count for much when they have your car, the V5 and you don't have the £'s.
Anyhow getting any money owed would be slow and painful, especially given their complete lack of answering the phone or responding to any emails, including the ceo!
I'm left realising, the most likely explanation is they are just a terrible company that do not care about their customers.

4 days late, wow what a big deal. Does this really need a Public Service announcement????
You go online, tap in your car reg, get an offer and the car is sold. 8 days later you get paid. Terrible service, that. Meanwhile, I've advertised my car for 3 months without so much as a decent offer.
The glass is sometimes half full you know

Glad you eventually received payment. WBAC are owned by British Car Auctions (BCA), which is a massive company and all the WBAC cars go straight to auction (online at the moment) unless their business model has changed post covid. A four day turnaround on your car to appear on a forecourt is incredibly quick, so maybe things have changed.

Maybe you are being optomistic on the sales price? You go online, tap in your car reg, get an offer and the car is sold. 8 days later you get paid. Terrible service, that. Meanwhile, I've advertised my car for 3 months without so much as a decent offer.

I was quite happy with the price mine fetched - the failure to honour the contract and to pay late, with no apology or expalnation, whilst an inconvenience for me could be much worse for folk who need the cash in a timely fashion.

How about after 11 days? 4 days more than contractually committed to.
Ignore him, if the buyer doesn't meet the terms of the deal that they set, then it's a cause for concern and you're right to alert others. I am tempted to press the button on a WBAC offer, but aspects of their operation do concern me, they just seem a bit fly to me. Kept me waiting 15 minutes for my booked appointment with no apology and then knocked me down £600 for alloys, which is a bit steep but overall still not a bad deal. I am sleeping on it for a few days.Blue62 said:
