Ignore him, if the buyer doesn't meet the terms of the deal that they set, then it's a cause for concern and you're right to alert others. I am tempted to press the button on a WBAC offer, but aspects of their operation do concern me, they just seem a bit fly to me. Kept me waiting 15 minutes for my booked appointment with no apology and then knocked me down £600 for alloys, which is a bit steep but overall still not a bad deal. I am sleeping on it for a few days.
Thank you! For what it is worth mine had slight scuffs to two front alloys - diamond cut, they only deducted £90 a wheel for refurb, which actually seemed pretty fair to me. The offer was reasonable, certainly higher than anything else I looked at or trade in.

Thanks Blue62 for the heads up about other options - useful for next time as I will not be using WBAC.......

Glad you eventually received payment. WBAC are owned by British Car Auctions (BCA), which is a massive company and all the WBAC cars go straight to auction (online at the moment) unless their business model has changed post covid. A four day turnaround on your car to appear on a forecourt is incredibly quick, so maybe things have changed.
I thought BCA sold WBAC to Private Equity TDR Capital.?

I'm booked in for Wednesday, got a cracking offer from them so hopefully they don't chip me too much after they've looked at the car....

Might pay extra for the faster payment though as its a good few grand, I'd be sweating waiting for 8 days with no car and no cash!

What size wheels/ are they diamond cut, I'm sure that's higher than the usual?
22 inch diamond cut alloys. When I damaged the offside in a multi storey I got a quote at £150 per wheel and decided I could live with it. Their offer seems ok I just didn’t enjoy the experience of dealing with them, but they’re a few quid ahead of the other quotes just now. I will probably keep the car for a couple more months as I just don’t know what to replace it with.

Sold my car to WBAC. Sale was fine, really easy and I was happy with the price......except they did not pay on time - contract specifies 4 working days after the transaction. The payment has just arrived as I type, 4 days late.
Isnt that 2 days late then as 2 days were over the weekend?

You will not be using them again because they were 4 days late. But you’re happy to consider a competitor? This thread is a bit obvious with its aims wink

Er no. Aim was to help folk, hopefully not an alien concept to yourself - not getting paid is contractually dodgy and its 4 days for someone who needs the £’s quickly. Car finance or the need to pay a debt does not stop at weekends unfortunately.

Might be a leading indicator of cash flow problems but they’re owned by BCA, aren’t they? So I’d have thought cash is not too much of an issue, given how much demand there has been for used cars recently.

Could just be bad service, though, which is more likely.

Purely bad service.

If the copy of the V5 wasn't good enough they should have been straight on the phone to the agent to get a better one.

I agree. Poor service. Poor admin and no customer service response at all when needed.

Selling a car without checking the V5 being correct would be odd. The process of checking the V5 for the sale must be disconnected from that of paying people.

My car was sold before I was paid, the poor V5 scan being used as an excuse - but not bad enough to prevent selling it!

Or as you say, managing cash in difficult times.

Good heads up. I'm booked in tomorrow afternoon.

Offered a great price atm. We shall see. Like others have mentioned think i'll pay for the fast transfer if indeed we go ahead.

Indeed, but I'm not in a hurry to sell it so I can wait. But if I was happy with a WBAC offer and got paid after 8 days I wouldn't be making a public service announcement biggrin
See the irony in that sentiment? The longer you wait, the more the car depreciates. If it’s priced too high, it’s priced to high. It will never become the right price. I love people that say “I’m not in a hurry to sell....”. This is usually the comment trotted out by those with a delusional opinion of the value of their car. In reality you want to sell quick, to avoid reducing the price over time. Key, is to price it right in the first place, of course.

I used We Want Any Car a couple of months back, they came to my house and paid for the car before they took it away with money in my bank account. Also paid more than WBAC

How did you get on with the offered price on the day? Much change to your original online quote?

I've had to change my appointment to tomorrow, it'll be just my luck they offer me less now!

WBAC seem to be offering me the most for my Golf GTi.

Anyone know what they knock off for a scuffed diamond cut?

Edit just seen someone above it was £90 which seems decent.

They chipped me £600 for four wheels, though they’re 22inch diamond cut. It seems steep but the bottom line is still quite a good deal, though I haven’t particularly enjoyed dealing with them. Still unsure whether to stick or twist for a lot of reasons, chief one being I don’t know what to get next.

My car is black with a few minor marks on it as well(age related I would say!) think 3 of the alloys have marks on them, they have offered just over 14k which is about £500 more than a couple of others I’ve tried so between the wheels and blemishes it might be a decent chunk off.

Thinking S4 for me next.

I can't stand it when organisations do not meet their commitments, particularly when it comes to money, however in the interests of balance I sold my Hilux to WBAV recently and received the money the following day as promised (paid fee for faster payment, following day as > £20K).

I suspect the OP's experience was down to poor service / admin by the branch in question, rather than a company wide issue / policy.

Decided to book an appointment with WBAC.

Went in knowing I would be getting a knocked down valuation. The car needs 3 wheels refurbed and there are a couple of minor marks( it’s a 7 year old black Golf GTi).

Wasn’t expecting it to be a £1400 reduction! Claims there was more than 5 chips on the bonnet and bumper( I still can’t see them) so required a body shop repair at £600 along with 5 smart repairs required as well as the wheels.

Told him I wouldn’t be selling so he instantly added another £400 on( his wiggle room apparently) but no danger I was going to entertain them further.
