Not sure if you've solved the temp gauge problem yet but generally speaking the gauge is measuring resistance. Hot = a lot of resistance. Right around the dial off the end means infinite resistance... i.e. wire disconnected.
Potentially if you're seeing weird fluctuations in the reading on the temp gauge you have a bit of corrosion or frayed wire somewhere between the gauge and the sensor.
It’s the other way round for a temperature sender - zero resistance = max current = high gauge. Potentially if you're seeing weird fluctuations in the reading on the temp gauge you have a bit of corrosion or frayed wire somewhere between the gauge and the sensor.

Maybe the sensor requires some sort of washer to stop the terminal contacting earth?
It's a variable resistor with just 1 spade terminal, and relies on the engine as the ground connection. You can see a picture of it hereSo insulating it wouldn't help.
You're probably looking for a dodgy wire... the worst kind of fault.

Unlikely to be the sender then. Some of them have a plastic cap which is supposed to insulate the terminal but can sometimes allow contact with the housing.

Except, when I caught it (and the gauge wasn't stuck at max), it dropped as soon as I disconnected the sensor - so it does appear to have been. You're probably looking for a dodgy wire... the worst kind of fault.
I’ve also just found to my cost that if a bid is received within the last 3 minutes of a C&C Auction that the time left resets the countdown from 3 minutes - so the auction I bid on ended nearly 8 minutes later.
Another way to eke out every last drop of bidding.
I won’t be looking at anything on there again it’s well wrong.

It's quite common with online auctions, it's to allow people with wonky connections to take part on an equal footing; it's a compromise just as having a fixed hammer time is. It will specify this in the terms and conditions.Another way to eke out every last drop of bidding.

I don't think it's a bad thing, it stops sniping and gets the best price for the seller. No different to a physical auction.rovermorris999 said:

This is only like a physical auction where they will say going once....twice...etc its a fair way to ensure everyone that wanted to bid can do it. Another way to eke out every last drop of bidding.

Agreed. Sniping is a snide way of bidding. Just bid the most you're prepared to pay and let the highest bid win.Extending the auction also gives the buyer time to decide if they really want to pay more than has been bid up to.
On Ebay, there's been several occasions I've had winning bids off snide snipe bidders who later pull out as they regret putting their bid in - it benefits nobody.

Everyone bids at the last minute. its not snide.
the trick is finding a trustworthy online auction platform, there's some terrible onces out there.
Bidding in the last minute isn't snide as you've seen what others have bid and decided if you're prepared to bid or not. I'm talking about those who leave it to the very last moment in the hope they slip a bid in which others don't have time to consider and respond to - it's underhand which is the very definition of snide. the trick is finding a trustworthy online auction platform, there's some terrible onces out there.

Not snide at all as it’s still the maximum bid someone is willing to go to - which is the definition of an auction. Just because you don’t snipe isn’t a reason to try to call out those that do, just join them and stop distributing your sour grapes! Edited by GeneralBanter on Sunday 24th December 23:14
