Just wow.

Especially with other family members using it.
Should last 20,000 miles before they need replacing. Passed MOT last year with just an advisory and done no more than 2k miles this year. Don't think it's as bad as it sounds.
Yeah, fk looking, what can possibly happen to them in a year and 2,000 miles. I don't know how one can be expected to fit 60 seconds of looking over your tyres into a busy year, who has the time?

Have I stumbled into "Vauxhall Owner World Forum" by mistake?!

Well yes. But this is a forum for people supposedly vaguely interested in cars.

Driver can't drive an illegal car. Just get tyres changed and move on with your life.
It's getting picked up by truck instead. No need to drive it, will pay whatever the lease company charge as a fee.

I suppose the tyres were perfectly legal the last time anyone in your family drove it, the tread just fell off over the weekend?

Did BCA give you a report? When mine was picked up by them they measured tread depths on each corner.

Loads of people never check tyres, oil, water etc anymore even car enthusiasts and just rely on sensors or the MOT. It’s really not that unusual I guess.

OP may be worth checking the tyres yourself properly to avoid getting charged for something that the guy who turned up may have got wrong. I know VWFS (who use BCS) won’t change tyres on lease cars with a maintenance package unitl they’re really, really low on tread depth.

OP previously posted admitting he ignored all servicing requirements for this car, now it's got no MOT and bald tyres.

I believe so, yes.

Another one of these threads where the headline grabbing title is somewhat misleading.

If the BCA driver were to get stopped by the police for any reason then he would get getting 6 points on HIS driving licence, together with a fine. It would be the drivers own driving licence that got the points - not the OPs, and not some kind of magical BCA "get out of jail free" driving licence.

Do you really expect anyone who has half a brain to drive the car. The fault is totally yours. You should have replaced the tyres when they started to approach the legal limit. Absolutely crazy.

That's pretty grim.

How feckless can you get? I'm guessing since the BCA guy said 'tyres' he means that more than one are not roadworthy, ie more likely to be bald than damaged. In which case you deserve the grief this will cause you, perhaps it'll serve as a lesson to pay more attention to the state of your tyres in future.
Guys - a fella comes on here to ask for some advice and we all seem to become enormously judgemental very quickly. Has anyone (other than Mr BCA) inspected this car and the tyres? Then why the sharp comments? Sure, it sounds like the OP hasn't checked the condition of the tyres as much as some but that probably puts him in the same category as 95% of the other people who drive on our roads.

Pipe down chaps. Have you considered that the BCA car collector has made a mistake? Or is pushing a point further than they should have? Such people are notoriously picky about cars they collect and there have been numerous threads on here about tiny faults on cars being collected being marked up as significant damage. This sounds to me very like something similar.

To the OP: I'd find the cheapest couple of tyres you possibly can and take the wheels to the fitter to have them changed over. Or find a mobile fitter to come and swap the tyres over on the drive, as has been suggested. I have no experience of the likes of BCA but I suspect they will gouge you on the price if they have to sort the problem out.

No, completely my fault I know this. I was asking if I should get new tyres fitted, or just get it returned on truck and pay the fee from Audi. I was also asking about the fee for the truck, however, BCA have said there is no fee.

I'm sure I'll get killed in the wallet for this and know it's entirely my own fault.

Hi All,

Some advice please. I've had a nightmare with Audi & BCA to arrange collection of an A5. I contacted them a month ago, and because of problems at Audis end, BCA couldn't collect it until today which is the last day of the MOT.

BCA have come today, a really nice guy, but said he couldn't take it as the 2 front tyres are too worn.

I've called BCA now to get some advice on next steps and they are not very helpful, so turning to PH on what to do.

Should I get 2 part worn tyres fitted then return it? As the MOT will have expired, I think I would have to pay for a loader to collect it, unless I also get the MOT done. However, the MOT could come up with more issues.

Or should I just pay for a loader to come collect the car and pay whatever fees Audi come up with for the 2 bald tyres. Anyone have any idea how much that would be?
Unless the OP means the MOT is about to expire....

I did this when I returned my Audi - spent a bit of money on mid-range tyres but not the correct speed rating. When Audi got the car back they insisted that new speed appropriate tyres were fitted - so got stung twice.

Can I ask how much they charged you for the new tyres?
