Audi and VW (same finance company) generally charge very reasonable fees for this kind of thing so the tyre replacement cost may be the cheapest option to just let them do it and save the time too.

Sheez...it sounds like BCA and finance companies are really in the gutter with car hire companies when it comes to returns recently.

I can get the tires being bald push back but stipulations like having at least Two months to the MOT just never seemed to happen, so I guess costs just aren't being borne by these companies anymore on what are overpriced agreements in the first place.

Owning a lease car that needs an MOT is a mistake itself, one i nearly became foul of with my Jaguar which became out of warranty, school boy error

Good point there but 3 year terms are quite normal so some must get hit for big $.

It’s crazy how folk treat these lease cars. The OP should have just put a couple of part worn tyres on it and put it through an MOT and got shot of it. Leaving it to chance is a bit reckless and will likely cost you £££’s

Why? It's not his car, he's already stated it will be collected FoC and he fears the MOT will bring more issues.

It's more a warning not to buy ex-lease cars!

Can I ask how much they charged you for the new tyres?
It was a few years ago but cost me around £1k to return... Approx £700 for the tyres and £300 for some minor dents. Never looked at an Audi again

I tried to arrange collection of the car a whole 4 weeks before the end of the current MOT and 3 weeks before my actual lease agreement ended.
BCA kept saying they could not arrange it, as Audi had a collection arranged for 9 months ago that they had not wiped off the system. Audi said there was no previous collection arranged. It went back and forth, up until the last minute I managed to speak to someone and explain the MOT was going to end so it needed to be collected. So they arranged to collect it the day before the MOT ended. My lease agreement ended over a week ago.

So in my eyes, no MOT was needed as I was returning it well before the next MOT was due.

As for the tyres, yes completely my fault.

Is that stipulation somewhere in black & white in the Ts & Cs of the agreement taken out at the start of the lease between the customer and the vendor?

If BCA have requirements for the vehicles they receive back from the customer's vendor that are different, then that's not the customer's problem ... the customer has no agreement, contract or obligation to BCA

Bingo! Had to do this for mrs' last lease car , got a sidewall puncture 2 days before handover. Ended up with a 2 year old linglong or similar for £30 , while noted on the sheet , was no issue with handover. The door dink on the other hand... £££

Just wow.

Especially with other family members using it.
Should last 20,000 miles before they need replacing. Passed MOT last year with just an advisory and done no more than 2k miles this year. Don't think it's as bad as it sounds.
It sounds worse the more you try and justify it. biglaugh

It all depends how a car is driven. It's not guaranteed tyres are going to last over 20k miles.

To have an advisory for tyres last year and still not check them is concerning.
Sounds as though OP doesn't care. If their previous thread on the same car is anything to go by it appears it's never been serviced either.

https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...

So in addition to Audi FS billing him for x tyres, they were already going to be charging him fees for failing to service it on time during his lease period.

I think I've seen it in this thread, part words would need to be the same manufacture and speed rating as the rears.

I understand this is contractual to probably stop this happening !

As said...don't pcp/buy an ex lease car and don't lease a car lol

This is just nonsense. Each ex-lease car should be judged on its own merits, the same as with buying any other car. I returned my Volvo lease to Manheim the other week, and despite spending 45 minutes going over it the guy said he couldn't find anything to note down at all.

Going to be an interesting return and charge back….in June car had 10k on it when the op was getting a price to buy with a suggested mileage of mid 20’s. No service history and bald tyres so they are going to go over with a fine tooth comb to see if it has been clocked.

A different car my friend. One that has already been returned a few months ago.

Has it been established that the tyres are actually illegal?

Car has now been collected, for reference they charge £170 per tyre. Not bad at all.

Also I was off on the milage (we have a few cars and I just remembered incorrectly). Tyres should have been fine biglaugh

From their report:

Engine : 2.0 Fuel : Petrol
Colour : BLACK Odometer: 19556
