Hi
I ordered a new Volvo CX30 6 months ago at list price. Still no sign of the car and the Houthis might delay delivery from China further. Given the average 10% discount alleged on new EVs and the decrease in demand, making a buyers market how should I go about taking advantage. Volvo sales are now on- line and I suspect negotiation directly might not be possible. Should I cancel and try again or would Volvo negotiate?

Think it was an EX-30 you ordered?

What did they indicate would be your potential delivery date at time of order?

What are they offering in terms of discount on new orders for the same car?

My typo. XC30 correct. Was told 6-8 months when ordering which was no problem. This is first enquiry as to what to do. I’ll speak to local Volvo dealer first

Volvo do not negotiate on pricing for new cars.
The dealer has no say in the matter, it is fixed pricing from Head office with fixed margins.
All of which is available for Joe public to view online at home even.

I doubt you'll get far trying to negotiate anything.
The only variable might be to switch you in to an alternative car that will potentially arrive sooner.

Qualifications: Until recently, I used to work for Volvo head office

If you're not happy just cancel.

To be honest, I find it a rather strange stance. You agreed and were obviously happy with the price when you ordered it, so what has changed? You certainly haven't found it cheaper elsewhere, so what would you have been negotiating with?

Not really strange The market for new and second hand EVs has changed markedly in 6 months. If Volvo discounted a car now and I paid cost 6 months ago that would seriously affect the second hand price and a discount would compensate.

Agreed could cancel but I want the car and am happy to pay, even if eventually to lose.

On another matter I have a 2.5 year old XC40 recharge and have had several recurrences of failure of the collision avoidance and drive assist programs. One required replacement of the windscreen. The second time the warning lights extinguished spontanously after a week, after the first time the batteries reached only 30%

A common problem? Otherwise very happy with the car.

I agree on the point if Volvo where now trying to shift these cars at large discounts you could push to get a discount. As they aren't I would say you would struggle to justify the ask.
