Objectively, the M5 is the better car, faster, newer tech and I suspect lower running and servicing costs.

The Audi will probably hold its value better, subjectively has a better interior 'feel' sounds far better in stock form, servicing costs can be high but warranty costs are more reasonable than the BMW offerings. The Audi is the rarer car and in my eyes has more road presence than the M5.

Look to the previous generation of M5 to see where the current generation will ultimately end up value wise, with the two examples you've posted I suspect that in 2 years time with another 10k on the clock there'll be very little difference in price between them.

I prefer the looks of the M5, but I’d say there’s no wrong answer. Drive both and get the one that you prefer… M5 will have better tech (assuming the options are ticked) if that matters to you.

I bought an M5 (non-comp) last summer, and prices for both have taken a bit of a knock since then! Could now get an AUC M5 Comp for less than I paid for mine, but then I’d have been driving something else for longer… Safe to say all cars are starting to depreciate a bit more normally than in the Covid years, so the timing is working nicely for you. smile

I was in the same position in 2022. I bought the M5, it's mega.

Quicker than the RS', handles better, option to fiddle with the 4WD system (RWD mode too!), lower running costs, better tech...

No brainer for me at the time.

After years of BMW ownership I’m really happy to have made the move to an RS4. As a bit of a perfectionist the build quality is a real pleaser, with electronic damping control the ride is fantastic, it’s just a lovely place to be.

I was considering a G80 M3, which I still think is a great car, but looks, practically and interior won me over.

For me the BMWs are better if you’re doing some track days and lots of weekends blasts, the Audi’s are a nicer day to day car. The RS products also seem to depreciate at a slightly slower rate.

I would be looking at the RS5 as well but it’s seems like you have a V8 itch to scratch.

You can’t go wrong either way.

Ah this is interesting.. I feel the BMW doesn't have the presence .. stance .. but of course absolutely has all the performance. Running costs are a big part here, I haven't delved too much into the M5.. I can see rhe Rs is absolutely mind boggling ...

I think I'd take out an extended warranty on either...

The answer is the E63 which are abdolutly bombastic:

At RS7 money I'd take the older 5.5 which is actually a better engine imo than the 4.0TT:

None of the three are cheap to maintain so go in with your eyes open as others have said there's no wrong choice.

Or if you can live with a mere 430bhp then the E53h is a hard one to look past:

I looked at the E63s when I bought my car but the ride comfort and reliability put me off. Maybe one for the future.

The M5 is really the best choice but whenever I see them I always think Birmingham drug dealer.

I've found M5's seem to give more issues (especially the turbos) but any of the three are capable of throwing a four figure bill.

Agreed. The bi-turbo 63 is a sturdy lump.

By all accounts the RMS is almost guaranteed to fail on early W213 E63s, an engine out job and a serious bill.

No such known troubles on the Audi V8. Don't know enough about the BMW.
