Mk8 Golf R, or…
Discussion
I think the Mk8 Golf R is quite a good steer. Not worthy of the abuse it gets on here at all.
Suppose depends on your budget but there is the A45s and the RS3. The RS3 is brilliant!
Smaller and more compromised for daily driving there is the Yaris GR which will be cheaper.
You also have some fantastic rivals that are FWD like the Civic Type R, Megane RS (criminally underrated this gen) and Focus ST.
Used choices to seriously but maybe save a few £ is an M2, Focus RS or Alfa Guilia Quadrifoglio.
Really out their if you don’t need a hatch and can do a 2 seater you have the F-Type or a Toyota Supra.

No true at all.The latest chassis is superb (and the old one come to that) and the fact that the haldex is split 60/40 pretty much full time makes for a very entertaining drive.
RWD afficionado's will obviously sneer, but when they're in the hedge and you sail past, who's laughing?
It's a rapid piece of kit.
I love mine.
I would say go for it OP

RS3 is a little bit ‘in your face’. Plus I only like the saloon, but only have a hatch parking space.Suppose depends on your budget but there is the A45s and the RS3. The RS3 is brilliant!

The Yaris is obviously a good steer, but I want a car where the usability comes first.
The Mk3 FRS is just a little bit nasty, and I’ll lump the CTR into this sentence as I want DSG or similar.
The Golf R budget would get me a slightly older A45 AMG, but for me, the Golf is more appealing.

You can’t really go wrong with the Golf R.
Might be worth trying to pick up at Golf R 20th Anniversary in the hope it handles depreciation a bit better.

What would you buy for the budget out of interest? The previous RS Megane was quite nasty, particularly with the Cup chassis.
