20k budget, do a 220 mile e/w journey regularly, plus highish mileage, so seeking car with sub 35k/40k miles

Initial scan says e220 or v90 d4 - which would you take + any other suggestions?

Assuming a diesel the main question is whether a 4-pot diesel is enough or a 6-pot would be worth the extra?

Also do you want 5-series/E-class size or 3-series/C-class?

Plenty of 6 pot diesels for £20k. That has to be the starting point.

Must be at least mid sized, 4 pot derv ok as more efficient.

Already have twin turbo flat six and a supercharged v8 for fun

Point taken but do check out the relative fuel economies as you'll be spending an awful lot of time in the car and 4-pot oil burners never "waft" quite as well as the 6-pots.

I no longer have a diesel but my 330d could do 60 mpg on a leisurely motorway journey.

Ive found a later shape e220d amg line 66 plate 2017 car as per the links you added, at a mb dealership, in silver with the widescreen dash and premium pack, 30k miles for £19300

Ive also been offered a 2019 v90 momentum, volvo dealership,, 33k miles, 2 years warranty and servicing inclusive

Volvo is 2 years newer, has full leather seats and better autonomous tech

Mercedes is nicer looking, on paper its more efficient, has a nicer interior and twin sunroofs

Checking BMW now - Im just wondering a3.0L diesel 6GT or A7 would be any better

Wife says it cant be a saloon as we've 2 small dogs - if not for that id just buy a 7 series, S class or A8

That was my first thought but a quick check on Autotrader shows not much available with the low mileage OP is looking for. Some of the prices seem crazy to me, 20 Grand for 9 year old diesel estates.

V90 in either D4 or D5 in either Momentum or Inscription trim.

All V90s have Pilot Assist which makes for a very relaxing motorway drive.

I'd take the E Class over the V90, the 6GT is a very good car but I think you'll struggle to find one under budget.

If I up the budget what’s the very best way to waft down the motorway, must be estate, big hatch or perhaps suv.
