I couldn't agree more with some of the comments regarding a larger car.

When I first started working I used to commute fair distances once a week in a smaller hot hatch.

Fast forward a few years I ended up in a Vectra C - despite it not being the greatest car, the difference on a long commute was huge.
Went to an Audi A4 after this, then an e39 then my current e60 daily - they all chew up the miles with effort - could drive 200 miles in one stint and bound out of the car like I had got in 5 minutes ago.

Used to frequently get aches and pains in smaller cars doing the same long distances.

May I recommend an F10? Will save a few quid if you buy outright, a decent condition 520d sport auto will do mid 50s to the gallon and can be had for around 7k.
(check the chain has been done though!).

But the reality here is there is nothing wrong with the Fiesta.

Strongly disagree here.
Fiestas are brilliant for what they're designed, but spending several hours *every working day* in one ends up becoming a complete chore.

Yes it can be done if you really want to force the point, but why suffer when something with much less NVH is readily available.

(gotta love it when people tell others that they're wrong for finding something noisy and exhausting!).
Fair enough, didn't actually say they were wrong - just looking at the engine specs the OP had in his current fezzy, nice torquey 1.6 diesel, probably had 6 gears??

Thought it would be ideal tbh on paper, but not always the case in reality - but yeah each to their own of course smile

Now, If it didn't have an armrest that would be an issue - merrrn you miss that when it's not there on such commutes.

I did advise some basic rep mobiles also as better alternative.

Probably going OT but I have had the need for a small car which would also work comfortably for regular (very) long journeys.

It is possible to get the Polo Mk5 with a DSG auto, cruise control, armrest and a strong engine.
It also has remarkably low NVH and is surprisingly quiet and refined on the motorway.

What lets it down is the rubbish seats but with some persistence and a few mods it's possible to overcome that to create a pretty effective mini-barge (dependant on your size and girth of course).
