I am considering buying one of the above, and am slowly getting to grips with the potential issues. One that was mentioned, was that the latter 6 speed gearboxes are more likely to let go than the earlier 5 speed. Is this true...or does it really only apply to modified engined cars?
My other concerns are turbos and ECU`s....I am surprised to hear that ECU`s are being replaced...is this because they are not original? I guess turbo`s give up if they are not warmed up or cooled down properly??
Many thanks
Mark

the 6 speed is stronger than the 5 speed... people spend a fortune upgrading from the 5 speed to 6 speed!
ECU was only changed on very early 2.5L cars due to a fault... lots have already been replaced and original ecu in these cars must be a rare find... changing a later cars ecu is only if you are going silly power as stock ecu is seeing over 600bhp in quite a few cars reliably!
Turbos got in all turbocharged cars that run decent power... if abused they die just like cosworths etc!

Thanks Andy...so basically other than leaking floors and body work they are basically pretty reliable? I guess they are basically pretty simple.
What do you think of Kerridges....they seem to have a good reputation?

Biggest problem is the cars are getting old !! turbos at 8 years old are getting tired and ECU are getting out dated !!

I agree with Tux my ECU has now been upgraded and it isn't locked, also the software is freely available and the ECU is widely reliable. I have an old MBE ECU which need's repairing if anyone want's it ha ha..

I tend to get shot down when I say this but from my own experiences the cars are reaching the cliff in age terms. As Tux has said they are getting old and certain components are more likely to fail than ever before. I personally have had shocks, floor, radiator, hubs, bearings, brakes, pipes, wheels and speed sensor (to name but a few) all replaced in the last 2 years due to failures.

I had a guy round tonite who is thinking about buying a Noble , he asked me which parts I had replaced/upgraded ...........after a good 10 mins I decided it was easier To tell him what I have not upgraded ..... The list is pretty short !!!
After this Saturday the list will be even shorter !!!!

If you're buying from them, their dealer warranty gives you some additional peace of mind. One of only a select few that I'd trust with my Nob. They're just a bit too far away for me. Can't help wondering whether they're shifting any of those Chinese MG6's...

Tux to be fair most of that is in quest for power rather than necessity... my cars done 50k miles, and few have spent more or replaced more that me... but almost the entire list is down to having to replace due to modifying the car. When it was stock and un-tracked I did nothing more than routine serviceing and replacing ball joints (all done by Kerridges) and I did 30k miles as my company car like this in rain or shine and it was totally reliable. If you modify them or track them you will need to replace a whole mass of stuff and they WILL be less reliable... but my god they are good when you do! I really rate Kerridges BTW... when my car was stock thats were it went for all its servicing... pointless now as my cars not really recognisable as a noble anymore.
