anyone running a colder stat?
Discussion
Was doing a bit of digging around and came across this old thread.... thought it might be worth just confirming my findings.
Those that followed this will see that I was having issues cooling my engine... I read real time temps via a new ECU all confirmed with multiple K type sensors that i fitted all around the cooling system to work out what was happing and hopefully solve the issue.
Whilst my car runs genuinely more than 700bhp and 8000rpm i had the issue even running a mear 0.6bar on track or on the dyno... i could get it to overheat in less than 2 laps of low boost at Rockingham
The car runs all new hoses, a pro alloy rad, standard water pump and has the shroud around the fans.
By overheat i refer to 100-105 deg c coming out of the engine.
Anyhow the issue is now 100% solved, even 20min sessions at full boost don't see the temps climb even close to the previous figures and temps are shown as under control.... to achieve this I did a few small virtually free mods to the car.
1. Fitted the low temp stat.... this genuinely shows the car went from sitting at 93 deg c on long trips on the motorway to 87 deg c.
2. Stood the rad more upright (also proven in the wind tunnel ti reduce drag).
3. cut the inside of the front clam back to increase airflow to the rad (as standard the entrance shrouds a huge amount of the rad).
Some clearly never have an issue, but for those that are struggling these are worthwhile giving a try.
