Something else to note at this time of year.

Can't say I've ever noticed this before but on my drive home tonight in the Seat I was noticing my lights wearnt as good. Almost to the point I was on side lights. But when up close to another car u could see they looked brighter than side light. Once home I checked the lights.

I found a complete layer of salt crud all over the lights dimming them down. This all was from one trip home as they were fine this morning.

Just keep an eye on them.

So, finally got round to changing my headlight bulbs over so from standard H7 to Osram Night Breaker Unlimited H7 12v 55W (which incidentally are the same wattage as the standard)......what a disappointment for want of more suitable words!!! I could not tell the difference, so I only changed the drivers side, but added a bulb to the dipped & one to the main beams to get a like for like comparison - admittedly its not dark, but you should be able to see some difference.....I could not see any apart from the Osrams are probably 5% whiter in light, luckily the swap was easy/cheap so not ranting mad. Next idea?!

You may be interested in this article, http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/accessories-tyres/767... as they don't seem to rate the bulbs you have as much as the philips x-treme vision bulbs.

I fitted a pair of high wattage bulbs (100w I think?) to the high beam and they light up the road like daylight. I wouldn't leave them on too long though as they would probably get quite hot and start melting things but I've had no problems so far.

I fitted a set of these to my Alfa last month, massive disappointment, as you said, barely any different to standard!

You live and learn... Hids4u's parent site recommended them, can someone send me the link to the page for the HiD upgrade. Maybe I can send them back and do a part-ex..

Cheers

Gave them a ring for you and traced my original order:

Part Number is: H7PRO
Discription is: H7 35watt proplus 5000K
Price is: £70 plus £2.95 postage for the kit
Tel number: 0844 8842600

Trust me, this is such an improvment over what you have now. I have only changed the headlight to HID and stuck with the standard main beam.
It always puts a little smile on my face when I turn on the lights and you get the ballast flash........doesn't take much I know smile

Cheers Wessexrfc, gave them a buzz, the Night-Breakers are on their way back to them & I have ordered the H7PRO as you suggested as a P-ex.
Will post some more pics when I get them/fit them for those who have the standard candles smile

Fitted my HIDs today, only took about 20 minutes per side, took me longer to fit the LED side lights because the polarity was wrong. (Worth the effort, they match the HIDs perfectly)

I was replacing Halfords Super Brilliance bulbs (apparently 50% brighter than standard), picture should show the comparison.

Fitted my HID's & a set of LED 5 section sidelights, difference is very noticeable, probably 3-4 times brighter. Only hassle was having to drill bigger holes where the wiring goes into the cluster to accept the HID fixing grommets. Will post some pics when I'm back at my PC.

Not sure how anyone could do it in 20 mins per side..took me the best part of 3 hours to do the whole job smile

I bought the slim version of the ballast units so I had nothing to drill, everything is located within the headlight cover smile

That Ida lot of heat to get rid of, have you considered that?

Have not sealed the cluster cover yet, don't really want to use the bathroom sealant stuff (apart from where the leads go into the cluster), it's such a pain if you want to remove the cover again and it looks so cheap. Anyone tried anything else like window trim rubbers?

I decided on the slim ballast units after reading one of your previous postings and you also confirming that heat hasn't been a problem, thanks!

OK, but when the ballast saturates through heat and your lights fail, don't say you weren't warned.

Understand and have monitored mine and as said, after 2.5 years, so far so good with ballast units fitted into light pods. I often drive with headlights on so they have been well used.
