Have not sealed the cluster cover yet, don't really want to use the bathroom sealant stuff (apart from where the leads go into the cluster), it's such a pain if you want to remove the cover again and it looks so cheap. Anyone tried anything else like window trim rubbers?
I made a pair of flanges from 5mm plastic and bonded them to the clam and the light cover with black RTV silicone so they form nice flat surfaces. Then I made matching "gaskets" from 2mm neoprene/rubber and stuck them to the flanges.

Seems to seal nicely and just attaches with the original screws, although I may change those if I need to take the covers off for any reason.

Looks good, I'll have a think about that, also contemplating getting some locking clamps to seal them instead of the screws as much easier to remove.

We all know how crap the 3r headlights are, even with a good quality 55w bulb you still don't get much light on the road and I've tried all sorts including a 35w HID kit. After seeing the comments on this thread about the HID kits I bought another one, this time a 55w 6000k jobby. Wow, I didn't have much hope but at last I can see where I'm going when driving in the dark! I drove a round trip to Birmingham and didn't get flashed once and had no heat issues at all, even with the ballasts being hidden inside the cover. I'm also looking at making a rubber/neoprene gasket to seal them properly as cutting the sealant is a right pita. So if anyones thinking about the upgrade just do it, I think you need to get a decent kit (although mine was about £35) it really is worth it.

A pic of old and new.

Excellent, nice work.

I will do the same, maybe even look into getting some of the black plastic bits made out of thin alloy, which then could be drilled and tapped for machine screws.

Thanks guys I've ordered set too

Do you have any 2mm neoprene/rubber left over, if not where did you get it from?

I don't think so, there was a bit left over but only scraps really - certainly not enough for another set. It was some old stuff that the engineers at work found for me but I can ask if there is any more or where it came from.

Yeah, I've come to the conclusion that the 35w kit I tried was a piece of crap as it was worse than the standard bulbs. The kit I have now is awesome.

I left the rear of the lights open totally and just sealed of the area to the wheel arch to stop crud getting to that area and thus the lights!

I fitted my HD lights yesterday, it took a while as I had didn't have enough space to get the tapered drill bit all the way in.
So I had to get the file out which has resulted in some filings going into the light pod. :/
Is there any way to get this out with out having to remove the plastic covers?

They are so much better, but am I right in thinking they are for the normal driving beam, or are they high beam?
It's not a problem I can swap them round easily enough

Where can I get some LED side light bulbs from?

The HiD's are for the dipped beam and you can get the LED sidelights from Autobulbs direct...but they are a very snug fit smile

Just pop the indicator bulb holder out and stick the hose of a vacuum cleaner in.

Today saw the HID units on the Lotus Evora, the ballast is only slightly larger than the plug on a normal H4 lamp, the whole thing would fit in the Noble light housing and is very efficient, so generates little heat. Not sure if they are commercially available, they were made by Osram.
