When you say the cap seals nicely what are you basing that on?

I replaced the filler hose on mine to a better grade and now my garage never smells of fuel smile

The hose degrades over time and lets fumes even though fuel doesn't leak out of them!

It could also be a faulty one way valve on the breather

Check that the fuel tank breather is still sticking out under the car - sometimes it retracts inside the sill.

To be honest mine has always smelt a little bit.

Does the carpet behind the seats get wet? My fuel tank had a hairline fracture and fuel seeped out and into the cabin.

well i think its sealing ok i tightened the nut so when u push the lever down feels nice and tight. no smell in cabin just when i go into garage but because its adjoining just seems a bit smelly. def no obvious leaks on floor or anything? where is the breather pipe located?

Look under the car by the Passenger side seat, you should see a black rubber tube sticking out about 2/3 cm from the floor.
