Thoughts on exhaust heat wrap?

My car is going in to have the exhaust system tweaked in a couple of weeks and I'm getting them to replace the old brittle heat wrap while they're at it. Can anyone tell me how much I need to wrap a twin system, I was thinking about 60m? Also what brands have you guys used, I know DEI is supposed to be the dogs nuts but it's £180 for two 30m rolls! I have found magmawrap on ebay and it's rated for the same temps as the DEI stuff, anyone know if it's any good? And lastly, when I spoke to Dave at jetstream I'm sure he told me to remove the wrap I have on the manifolds as they can get too hot and crack, am I right in thinking this? Thanks guys.

don't wrap the manifolds no matter what they are made from... put simply they get way too hot, the stainless ones will crack regardless of grade.

I wrapped my inconal ones as they can definatelly take the heat without cracking and then monitored the exhaust gas temps... the results made me remove it as the temps just went silly even on low boost... it also showed why the stainless ones can't cope.

I have only wrapped my system from the manifolds under the engine just to prevent heat transfer into the sump, I don't have any anywhere else... I used the stuff that looks a little like carbon and imported from the states, its high quality and worth it... personally can't see any value in having it anywhere else!

Mine is wrapped from the manifold to the silencers, including turbo blankets. I think I'll remove the wrap on the manifolds but have the rest covered, I just hope I'm not going to need a new pair of manifolds.

I used the titanium wrap from Merlin , 50m to do the whole exhaust , not the manifolds though !

Had mine done today by Jetstream. Yes I know I'm lazy. Also had wheel arch cut outs done looks awsome.

Second what Andy says..

Don't wrap manifolds, it ruined one of my stainless items.
Don't fit turbo blankets, it cracked both exhaust housings on my turbos badly.
The only area worth doing is wrap the exhaust down pipes including Cats past sump back to the silencers boxes

Had a look on merlin motorsport, looks like the stuff you used has an even higher rating tux so that could be the way to go if yours is still on there ok.
Think I'll remove the turbo blankets as well, I suppose keeping all that heat in the turbo can't do it any good but surely wrapping the silencers is a good idea to keep heat away from the intercooler housing?

I use titanium wrap on my ultima it works a treat mine came from the USA a company in the uk supply it and all the fixings needed you just supply then pipe length and diameter they do the rest . There called nimbus motor sports .

I had the DEI titanium stuff on my first stainless system, horrible stuff and fell apart! New BCS exhaust is wrapped in some pretty thick white coloured material that Dave had to order specially, don't know where from tho!

Yep, Dei titanium stuff fell apart off my exhaust after a year and was quite fragile to knocks and being moved, the stuff on the BCS exhaust seems much tougher so far and will take knocks from spanners etc without breaking up

I used the Magma stuff from ebay, 2 rolls needed, 3 years later it's still in pretty good shape, just looks dirty now.

Thanks guys some great info, at least I have some brand names to look into and my decision on using dei has just been made easier! I think I may give the magmawrap a try, it's a good price and the dealer seems to think it's up to the job. I've used some nimbus heat shielding before which was good so will also look into that.

I had Zircotec on my M400, turbos to back-box astonishing stuff that remained stuck to the metal and kept heat at bay, accept no substitutes though, I have a competitors product on my current car that is not nearly as durable.
You pay more for the Zircotec and it is eye-wateringly expensive but I regret having the lesser (cheaper) product on my current car.
