Thanks all,
Sorry was away for the weekend, but did have a chance to prod under the clam.
What I've discovered is that the turbo 9.5mm cooling hoses are already Pirtek, rated at 400 psi. However the hose that split is actually running to (or from) the heater. This hose is a Goodyear, only rated to 50psi.
My initial thoughts were that someone has previously upgraded the hoses in the engine bay to Pirtek, but left the heater hoses as they're tricky to get to. But then I perused the build manual, only to spy on one of the photos that the original setup is Pirteks for the turbos and Goodyear to the heater. So by conclusion I still have the original hoses.

Before I change the heater hoses to Pirteks, is there any reason why the heater would have a different, and presumably lesser quality hose? Do you think that changing these hoses could be achieved through the inspection cover to the tunnel, or does the floor need to come off?

BTW I'm up and running now as I was able to just trim down the hose as it split at the jubilee clip, and there was enough slack.

Another issue now. After a 5 mile run, there's steam coming from the overflow outlet on the expansion bottle. (Ford part)
I had to add 2 litres of coolant after the hose split. Could I have an airlock somewhere causing undue pressure build up and could this have caused the initial pipe to fail?
Is there a technique for bleeding any air out of the system?
Any help gratefully appreciated - I hate the fear of overheating.
