Steering rack leaked badly

just got back from a hours M/W journey, the last 1/2 mile I heard weird noises. Got home and lift the rear clam, steering fluid chamber empty but pumping fluid back. Turn the engine off thinking boiling the fluid, then notice a line of dripping the last 10m, pop the front clam and there is a puddle of steering fluid all over. Hard to see where its coming from but looks like from the centre area,

Mine had a crimped pipe which I had made by a local pipe company, my guess is one of the rubber pipes needs replacing. Was a pretty easy fix and had mine made longer to prevent it from crimping up again.

Where the pipes enter the rack there are some rubber O Rings , they perish over time , worth checking them .

Cheers guys, quick q then, for me to give it a full going over I take it the rack will be to come out...

Which side is easier to get it out? Near side or offside?

No need to remove the rack , if you remove the drivers side wheel and look at the rack you will see the pipes entering the top , they are held in place by a single M6 Allen bolt , if you remove this then the pipes will pull out exposing the robber O rings . I changed all of them for new ones and it fixed the leak I had .m
