My missus wanted to build a cobra, I thought I could build quite a left field one... however we decided to build a capri instead, it won't be a normal capri either as I'm making the entire body in carbon along with my own chassis and a 550bhp V10 engine.

Of cause I have kept the noble as well... will never sell the noble, its just too good now.

Interesting!!! Do you need to do iva test (or whatever they are called) if you are making your own chassis??
Either build a supercharge cob with a lean towards an aggressive road/race set up or restore an early 80's 911 for track but include my own touches. My fear is with the cobra is already have a 65 fastback mustang which I have taken to gt350 spec and sorted out the handling. I'm worried the cob will be a bit similar and the 911 will provide me with some rear engined high revving goodness.

Unfortunately yes, I could do what almost every other person seems to do and just build it and run it on the existing cars V5... But that's technically not legal and some people have been caught.

Wise, I guess the value when done will be more too if the paperwork is correct so worth the expense. I'm using PH less and less but would love to keep an eye on the build if you are thinking of doing a thread! Post up a link!

Likewise, I did start a thread in readers cars section but not sure how much I will update it.

Like my noble I'm not that bothered about how much the car would be worth at the end of it as its a hobby and I'm very unlikely to seek it... I've spent well over 100k on the noble including the 23k I bought it for, it was worth it though.

I wouldn't get hung up on what an insurance company will pay,
They paid me 43K for my M400 when you could pick them up for £36k
It's worth what the buyer will pay, start a little on the high side and leave some room for haggling.
If your paint is that bad perhaps offer it with the buyers choice of colour you may have a wider audience then.
On the Cobra front I quite like them but in the end I went for an Ultima GTR instead.
They are a bit Marmite but there are a options available in terms of engine/performance envelope.
I like my car I'm five years in and can't see me selling any time soon and I usually sell after a year or 18 months.

Hi

My opinion and I am by no means an expert but rather a collector who has done ok, is that in 2016 end of, M12's will be making £45k (2.5 ltr) and M400's £65k. You only have to look at current pricing and the market to see where it is going.

I haven't got a Noble yet, but i have made my mind up to get one. Was looking at a cob, and i still might buy a kit, and get my hands dirty. Not sure i will want to buy an already built one as you are never really sure what your buying. People say (as with most cars) you need to see and drive a few because they all vary in how well they drive.
The cob for me would be the XCS 427 with the supercharged LS3. I think, if your buying a replica, it doesn't have to be an exact copy. Some people seem get very hung up on the fact that a cobra rep isn't true to the original.
One last thing. The cob purchase was going to be a definite, but is now a maybe. Having done a bit of research on Nobles, i'm thinking once i have one, i'll want to keep it, and if that happens there might not be room in the old stable for 2 toys!!! Man maths applied of course !!

the silver M400 in the classifieds is cheap at £36k, and still cheap after i read this part of the add!

"THIS M400 IS CURRENTLY PRICE AT £36000 ON THE 1ST OF SEPTEMBER 2015 THE PRICE WILL INCREASE TO £39000"

Yes, if nobody buys it at 36k, ........the best thing to do is up the price to 39k
Maybe he has spent 5k fixing the paint issues and tidying it up

OK EDITED - I'll eat my words, they have spent some money on it now, paint, seat, fuel pump, service etc etc. So its a nice car and 36k is actually cheap.

I still struggle to understand why there is such a premium for M400s.
For the £15k-£20k difference you could spec up a 3R beyond M400 performance.
Also I don't understand why we haven't seen a nicely modified 3R going for in excess of £40k...
