Correct me if I'm wrong but in standard form a 2.5 is 980 kg 310 bhp = 316 bhp per tonne. 3.0 3r 1080kg 352 bhp = 325 bhp per tonne. This is IF both cars put out factory figures, though I doubt 9 bhp would be that noticeable between the two?! Though I'm biased as I have a 2.5 also.
I think the power figures were not miles off of claimed, but weight wasn't very real.... Have you weighed you 2.5? Im betting its actually close to 1100kgs.
I think 2.5s on their original map can make as little as 280bhp which is why a remap is often a very good idea, even if you don't change anything else!

My old 2.5 was mapped and had no other performance upgrades. It produced 352bhp, so imagine it would've given a 3R a run for its money?
Chapppers, I'd be interested to know whether you've had any comments on the colour of yours. I'm curious whether colour could make that much difference in selling a car. I have to confess, when I saw my 2.5 sat there in its metallic black, it was a done deal!

Chappers, hope you don't take this the wrong way, but I'm not sure your advert is doing the car any favours, I got a bit bored reading it!! It's a bit long winded, with some non relevant stuff/Clarkson etc and yet it only mentions history of it's last three years at Jetstream and yet it's a 13 year old car. A couple of the pics show nothing relevant as they are too far away or the car is parked on a track with a zillion others .Hope you take the above as trying to be constructive , but it might be worth a re-think.

Got to agree , needs better pictures , nothing of the engine bay , seats , no rear end shot to start with , get rid of the one with the bikes , it does nothing to sell the car , not sure the title works .
Refresh the advert once a month , it keeps people reading the advert and interested , show lots of pics .

Hmm ok, I'll have a rethink. I doubt any advert will sell it now anyway with the weather as it is, and anyone who wanted one surely would have seen it and contacted me by now. I think I'll try again in March. Saying that my pistonheads adverts are free so it doesn't hurt to keep it up there. I wouldn't want it to be up there long enough to start to look like an untouchable dog though of course, it's really that only a couple of people have even come to look. Both have been very complimentary and both times I genuinely thought I had a sale but it went cold.

I guess my idea was that the more interesting pictures set the scene and long-winded ad show that it's owned by an enthusiast, and the bit about Jetstream is true because that's how long I've been going there. They can rebuild a car from scratch in a month so if it's been going there for 3 years and has a good service history leading up to when I bought it so I don't see the issue there. The spec list is quite prominent in the middle if you don't want to read the nonsense I typed.

I do have a bigger picture allowance though so I should put some more pics up of the car from other angles.

Hmm yes I thought "perhaps the best" implied "one of" from what Dave and Matt have told me I would say it's true from a handling perspective which is the biggest selling point of the car for me. Maybe I'm not thinking like a typical owner / prospective buyer? Are people looking for different things from the car than I do/did?

I'd deffo' get rid of the first (90's fords isn't exactly a positive),third ( Clarkson/strange sounding etc etc)and last paragraphs (I wouldn't want my ears talked off about it at all, or further,be told I was definitely going to buy it). Much more detailed relevant photos, and more info about the cars history. Doesn't mention how many owners its had, no mention of ten years maintenance previous to Jetstreams three years, and maybe it'll be worth putting some dates and prices against the work that has been.
It looks a lovely example, I'm sure it will sell.

Chapppers I've just taken a look at the ad and so if you don't mind I'll be brutal but constructive here...

As others have said the pictures aren't doing you any favours. The third and fourth are just padding and aren't descriptive. Nice to have at the end but not as your main shots. I like the first and second but I've always found it works best if you then take shots as if you've just walked round the car so front 1/4 (as you have), then your close up of the nose badge showing the lovely paintwork, then side on, rear 1/4, rear, then think about interior and finish with an engine bay shot or two. I don't like your steering wheel shot simply because it's raining. No-one wants to see a car in the rain.

Then to the description - there's lots of waffle and as you've got 4 others currently listed in 'M12' you've got to expect that whoever is looking has a fairly average understanding of what it is at least. It's the same for the silver M400, all I read is blah blah blah then onto the next paragraph. In your case I've read "blah blah blah" then the new paragraph says "Other than that, it’s ready to go...." Whoa! Hold on!? What is wrong with it that I skipped in the last paragraph??

Very minor points - you've said it's got 'New exhaust manifolds' and also 'New OEM manifolds just fitted.' That's a lot of manifolds. Plus you've also said 'New rear catalysts' how many does it have?

Finally the point about you being an enthusiast - you're PH username is on the ad. Anyone who's looking at a PH ad will likely click on your name and sift through some of your posts to see what you've been complaining about and advice you've been asking, so they'll easily be able to tell you're a genuine guy with a good car. You just need to hold their interest until they get to that bit.

Sounds like I need to start again from scratch! It's much easier selling a car you don't care about I think, you can just get straight to the facts rather than saying how much you love it in an essay.

Anyway it's been updated now. I don't have that full 360 view you're talking about but I'll try to get one tonight if the sun is out.

So the Mole Valley M400 sold? Do we know who to? I would love to know how much it went for. No doubt they will do their usual trick of leaving the ad there for months with no indication the car isn't available.

Chappers, I'd definitely take the time and get some decent pics..
when I purchased mine it was the pics that got my attention, also I wouldn't take any of the engine bay unless it's really clean.
Shorter listing aswell just describing the cars history and mods.
There's a nice orange one on ebay!
Good luck smile

Bespoke's 3R sold with a ticket price of £36k it seems from PH Classifieds, can only be a good sign smile

RE your car Chappers - not wanting to labour the point but to echo the others, having seen and gone out in your car, the ad (and/or photos) really doesn't do it justice smile Genuinely if mine hadn't come up we would have spoken much further about it. You should think about going somewhere like Burton Dassett hills or similar for some decent photos, would look infinitely better than driveway photos etc. If there's a sunny weekend I don't mind heading up there too and I could lug my camera kit with me smile

Midlifecrisis I am sure there was a few guys trying to view this and the garage said they did not have it ready.
Was there not a post thinking that it had some paint repairs to.
It's to cheap for a M400 ....

Been for sale for at least 4-5 months too, I sent an email (in hindsight should've called anyway) asking about that and another car they had (£2k runabout) and got no answer.

Edit: Although I'm sure there used to be details in the ad rather than just the mileage etc plus pictures.

So I have spoken to the garage with the M400, service history is OK, not perfect. He assures me the silver paint all matches perfectly. New clutch & seat bolster, stone chips sprayed on the nose.
I'm still stuck for the big negative I was looking for. Other than the fact its factory standard & exhaust will need replacing amongst other things.....
