Well we couldn't hunt down the rattle in the top end so it looks like we need to dig a little deeper cry
never mind, didn't have anything to do at the weekend anyway !!

cams looking pretty good

EDITED TO ADD
These were the symptoms..
Engine ran fine at idle and up to around 3,000rpm
above 3,000 rpm there was a serious metallic rattle.

the cause

Low oil level caused by leak on rear bank turbo.

diagnosis

Knackered big end (and little end!) bearings.

repair

Engine out and rebuilt

Owen
Hope you get it sorted and its not too sort expensive.
Having fitted my Faulks IC all on my own last weekend I now feel qualified to say that if you need any advice then give me a call.
Paul
(well i had to ring Matt once , and it's not actually wired up yet but I did all my own pop riveting )

Nowhere near as traumatic as watching him do it in a cool relaxed manner...it reminded me of me when I was bullsh1ting someone

I managed to get the old IC out fairly easily. Having done so and discarded it somewhere safe I couldn't see how the new one would fit in. Not having taken much notice of how the old one came out I had a worrying half hour before realising that the fan was actually upside down. Apparently the manufacturer just puts them on a bit haphazardly.
Confused the fk out of me but that isn't too hard

A knackered chain tensioner type of rattle

Heres the latest !

IC box off and various bits stripped out..

First we accidentally discovered the cat was loose !! ....

so heres matt de-catting !

the offending item... interestingly enough, a metal cat, not a ceramic one.

Soon had it re-welded and back on

Turbo showing a bit of play, but pretty much OK
exhaust side

intake side

And here's the rattle. two stretched chains and the right hand tensioner not tensioning.

Oh yes there are...above it's plain to see Obes has a 4" tool, and they all saw my 9" beast when they visited here a few weeks ago

Thats true. Matt, Obes and I were quietly working in the garage when Martin accounced that he was going to get out his tool. We were all stunned when he did pull it out and to our astonishment, as he says, it was a full 9 incher!!

You must have to be a strong man to handle one like that!

Even more interesting is that it doesn't seem to matter whose tool or how big it is, it's always Matt with his hands on it , the tart !
