Yes, you can imagine kind of an "aero cocoon" or virtual fairing around the riders that reduces drag for all when they are riding nose to tail. IIRC theoretical and practical studies show that 4-6 riders in a group provides optimum (minimum drag) conditions for all.

Yup, there's quite a bit of video of the day. Not sure that we can release it yet as Racecar Engineering may want it under raps for a bit longer. Saying that the details of Paul C's fastback are out in public. I'll leave it up to Paul to say if he minds that footage put up somewhere.

did you try it with the number plate fitted and removed ?

Just fitted. Looking at the smoke trails, as I suspected, there's probably less drag with it on. If your cooling is working fine then removing it may make the car slower...
