Reversing light

Mine has stopped working.

Before when engaging reverse it used to come on once every 5 times.

Now no matter times I pick reverse the light won't go on.

Anyone had a similar problem? Is it a connection somewhere?

Hi i had a similar problem mine was the reverse light switch im sure its a ford part and located somewhere near the gearbox sounds like its the same problem you have otherwise there may be a bad connection somewhere cheers chris

I've had 3 reversing light switches in as many years.
The Noble wiring to the switch leaves lots to be desired.
Check these two connections first,and even replace them if you are in doubt.

So how do I get access to this switch? Can I access it from the cabin and what does it look like?

I think you have a 3R like mine so its easy.. look on top of the gearbox below the header tank and you will see a switch on a small flat plate with two wires coming out of it in top. They will probably have 2 bullet type connectors connecting them to the loom.
It just screws out.

22mm spanner/ double depth socket will have it out in no time.

I got mind from Rosion in the U.S. Years ago. Posted to the UK no issue. Just looked at their website, circa $15 part number 72297420

Thanks Andrew, it looked good until I got too checkout and the minimum shipping cost was $88, I can get a colleague in the US to buy and pop it in the post to me but I'll try Ford dealer today or maybe a scrppy but there aren't many locally.

Hi Rob, I think you'll discover that a Ford dealer will want to sell you a complete section of loom rather than just the plug. I'd also like one so if you have any luck let me know!

You're right Rob, a singularly disinterested parts man at Ford said Oh that's part of a loom you'll have to Heath Robinson something up....

Hi Andrew, thanks for the offer but my man is back in the UK for a visit in May so if I don't find one in the next few days will order that way and may buy a few to pass on.

I didn't realise just how horrible the original is, I thought it was a white plastic plug but it's just some kind of flexible silicon potted around the crimp connectors.

Anyway back to business, I've found something suitable;

£6 plus about £5 P/P so it's worth finding some other bits and bobs to get the most for your 1kg limit!

Here's the completed new one against the original, I did think about changing the bullet crimps to the loom but laziness prevented me from completing that part....

I soldered the wires on to the pins then potted them, far more reliable
