Lexus LFA parts catalogue, read it and weep!

How can a clutch cover and pressure plate cost anything like $21,500? I bet you could get something made as a one-off by an engineering shop to the same specs for less than that.
This is what I dislike about supercars. Paying for quality is one thing. Being shafted because "you can afford it" is something quite different.

Same with most things, the rich like to feel special and Lord it over those that can't afford to do / have the same so someone will always charge them over the odds.My local pubs about to go tits up because the land lord has this mentality, £5 a pint in a country pub because "people who live here can afford it". They can of course but the majority stay away because they feel like they are being shafted. Did bring in a new clientele for awhile who liked to pose but they faded away before too long as no one was there to see them. This sort of thing would have worked great in central London, which is probably why most super cars when driven are in gridlocked cities.
Anyone remember that Dacia advert from not long ago:
"This is a door from a supercar. It costs £8000 <or something like that>. Alternatively, you could get the door, and the rest of the car, for £7999 <or something like that>."
Looks like they underestimated that! £20,000 for a single door panel!

The windscreen glass is $18278. Would windscreen cover pay for that?
I wonder how thoroughly insurance go into these things.Yes sir that will be £2000 a year £50 excess for the windscreen.
Anybody know any rich folks who would know about that.

In 10 years time they'll be CAT-D'd if someone nicks your badge...
Seriously, though, at those prices, it is certainly much cheaper to have parts made from scratch.
Can't cost 18k to have a bespoke windscreen company make you one to any shape you want, for example. Metal parts are, in the main, much easier to replicate.
The irony! A super hi tech car being repaired using home grown parts...
In 10 years time the bloke down the road will be able to fire up his 3d printer and print all the parts he could ever need!Seriously, though, at those prices, it is certainly much cheaper to have parts made from scratch.

In store a new engine is 80K, but inly 61k online. Bargain!!!
as they where hand made in the toyota F1 engine plant (which was reopened just to make the LFA engine) that is pretty reasonable, and a lot cheaper than the other engines that came out of there xRIEx said:

And yet, having heard the engine I can't help but think that's a bargain got some reason!I don't think the parts look that unreasonable funnily enough as far as this type of car is concerned... it's a seriously bespoke low production car with loads of unique parts. One can't reasonably expect gt3 type parts pricing surely?
