It’s odd as a few pages back an owner was saying that it is only really proper fun when driving like a hooligan, with a comment of - it is still a Toyota Yaris after all. This put me off a little. My friend had one when they first came out and said roughly the same. I appreciate this thread will have more lovers than haters.
There’s a brilliant article in the new ‘Rush’ magazine, which I can’t link to as it’s in the GRY Facebook group, but it sums up long term ownership brilliantly. ‘It is still a Toyota Yaris after all’ is a nonsense comment. Because it quite clearly isn’t! They could have just called it the GR4, or whatever. It’s as much a Yaris as a 6R4 is a Metro.

It feels like nothing else to drive, but then its competence could be seen as boring when it’s not being pushed. Every so often, you get a ‘wow’ moment, though, where it all just comes together. If I had sold mine after a few months, I feel like I would never have understood what all the fuss was about.

It isn't a Toyota Yaris after all. Even less than a Clio V6 is a Renault Clio.

How can you be so ill-informed yet hang around a dedicated motoring forum. Or are you just trolling like the last bloke?

I kind of like the boring just a Yaris kind of thing. It makes long distance drives easy. But when I want to have fun it shines.

I meet up once a month with other PH forum members for a drive, a variety of different cars but the one thing they all say is me pulling away from junctions they hear a bit of 4 wheel slip then grip. There may not be exhaust noise but they always say how great it sounds as I disappear.

On another note my wife is starting to drive it more than her car, she's certainly not a petrolhead but comes back saying how nice it is to drive. Quiz her a bit more and it’s because she’s racing anything she can at the lights rofl

Phil.

Rumours abound that prices for the Mk2 have been announced in France and limited to 300 units.... I won't quote the headline figures as can't substantiate the source.

Seems bang on for where I thought the auto pricing would be.

Over 50k euro for the grey with options. That should keep GR1 values strong smile

I can't access the site at present.

Is that 50k+ tax?

And is that an Ogier Edition or the standard car?

Good spot. They would struggle to sell anymore than 300 units in France anyway considering the 35.000 Euro Malus that has to be paid at point of registration.
You would need to be seriously committed to part with over 80k for a GRY, as good as it is.

Standard car. Forged wheels and paint as extras and comfort pack on auto. €50k + 30k tax

I do concur! I have thankfully the ability to register in nearby (to me) Germany avoiding it.

What's the difference in tax in France Vs Germany and Luxembourg? I know Spain is pretty bad, too.

France has a CO2 (and in the meantime also weight) based taxation for cars, which has been put in place essentially to protect its national automotive industry. For 2024 you have to pay already from 118g/km (threshold has been reduced every year) and amount increases with every g/km. It is capped for 2024 at 194g/km at which point you will be paying 60.000 Euro on top of vehicle price. The GRY is estimated at 190g/km for which 46.000 (just been checking) are actually due!
Good news you only pay it once, but that is still a total of 90k Euro.

German vehicle Tax is calculated based on a fairly complex mix of CO2 emissions, engine cubic capacity and fuel type and is paid yearly. You would be paying around 250 Euro / year for a GRY, possibly less. Something like a current M3 would be around 500 Euro / year.

I am not familiar with Lux vehicle taxation.

Thankfully in Lux you just pay the same as the annual carbon-based tax, for mine I think it is about €170

Hang on, it is not me being I’ll informed, read what I wrote before you suggest such things, I wrote about another poster who made the comment of ‘still a yaris’.

Wind it in a bit.

And it is a heavy tax! Salesman at the local garage here in France called the “naughty tax”. Current cheapest secondhand here is 40k euro with others in the high 50’s

I wouldn’t look too much into the packs as that will be country specific as to what they bundle I suspect.
