I picked my black s up this afternoon. It’s crazy fast (like murcialago fast without the noise)

It’s also huge

Few niggles. No apple CarPlay and the hud reads in kilometres (will be fixed with an update)

You have to turn off the speed warnings every time you start the car as well which is a pain in the arse

The collision warning scared the crap out of me when it thought I was going to hit a pedestrian !

congratulations, would love to know how you get on and what kind of mileage you get when you drive it properly at french motorway speeds.... post some pics in due course. No apple play, bummer, what the nav like then, does it give you speed camera info??

Do you live on the Wirral ?
I was waiting to pull out of a junction a couple of days ago and waited for a black , I’m being polite , absolutely huge suv coming down the road .
I know cars keep getting bigger these things aren’t designed for England roads .

Wall Street Journal today (Saturday) has a rave review from Dan Neil who is a very competent journalist. and when has driven it. Firewalled but worth a read if you can get a copy.

Went to B&C last week and sat in a few, well impressive, was told that the range should be between 270 - 320 ish, OK that's doable and was seriously about to pull the trigger on one this week, but then I saw Harry's review last night and the range is really really poor, and not just that but the efficiency is around 13 MPG in cost... That's over 1/3 of the efficiency of my 3.0 D
Such a shame. Needless to say I shall have to admire someone's elses from afar.

I’m in metric but if it’s a 110kWh battery and let’s say 30kWh/100km on motorway then you’ll get 366km or 230 miles. I don’t know what Harry got to and what driving he was doing but that’s what I would expect anyhow. None of this is particularly dramatic or new and if you charge at home it’s cheap as chips anyhow.

db10 who has one can no doubt advise as well.

I think that calculation was done at service station electricity prices.

If you charge up at home (most people will most of the time) 110kWh will cost you £8-£9 for 200-230 miles.

You'll pay 7-10x that en route, of course, at a fast charger. But the trick is to minimise use of those. In my Taycan you can set how much charge you want to arrive home with (say 10%) and it works out how much you need to put in/how long you need to stop for.

I took a trip to my folks at the weekend. Did something like 420 miles and think it cost me about £100, with a full charge when I left home plus fast chargers en route. In my old 911 that would have been £120-130. Probably £150-160 in my old RS4.

(Comparing to a 3.0d isn't really the point IMO. There are more economical EVs that are a better comparison. Unless the diesel is 4s to 60\160mph++ in great comfort etc smile ).

If by that you mean setting the cruise to 90 then the efficiency will fall off a cliff.

I'd be surprised if it does 1 mile per kW particularly in winter.

No it won’t. It will suffer but you’ll still have a usable range.

I did just that in my iX this morning. Pissing rain offset the milder temp. Did the full length of the M40 in an hour (at 4am I should add). Journey average 2.1 miles per kWh. 150 miles total with 30% remaining on arrival.

If I really wanted to maximise efficiency I could have just about made it there and back but I was more concerned about arriving promptly for an early morning Heathrow drop-off and less concerned about stopping for a top-up charge on the way back.

In France in warmer temps I was far happier at an indicated 90 than 70 or whatever is deemed sensible. You’re not even breaking any laws and its a far less tedious way to travel. Charges were still 200 miles apart which is fine.

i havent driven it enough to form a view yet - but doing a long trip tomorrow so will see how it does ! at 99% charge the app is showing a 300 mile range which is obviously 70 miles less than the max range stated by lotus which isnt a good start. The R model had a stated range of 300 miles so assume that real life is like 200 on the same basis - glad i didnt get the R !

So 90 mile trip, mainly motorway so no regen used 48% of battery so you are probably looking at 200 mile range on 100% charge on motorway driving

Was pretty impressed at the recharge speed on a 50kw charger in the services though. Stopped for 25 mins and it put 25%charge back in the car

Thanks DB10 for the realistic figures, I was already to put my money down but 170 miles less then advertised is a tad inefficient, basically I'd like to drive to Wigan from the south (230 miles) with everything on and still have enough charge to give it a boost for the trip home. This is the usual business trip, early start with no time to stop for a pee rushing to get to an appointment. I've looked at the model S long range but they stopped selling them in RH drive.... Looks like I am going to have to wait to take advantage of the tax situation with electric cars, as I couldn't justify it £100k spend on something that doesn't do what I need it to do.. not that you need to know that, I am just convincing myself here...

This is a curious calculation. 90 miles on 48% gives 187.5 miles on 100% and you'd be brave to take it down to 0%. So I don't think I'd want to try for 200 miles

I saw my first one today near Malvern, I thought it was a great looking car, this example was Grey, If I went for one, it would have to be Yellow!

I would happily have one to replace the iPace, but I don't think my bank balance would agree frown

Lotus introducing a battery pre heater that should extend range in the winter... Popped in to the Lotus dealer in Mayfair, the Electra still a stunning looking motor... hoping for increased range, one day....

just thought i'd chime in.

Spent the morning at Lotus Bristol today and looked around, and test drove an Eletre S.

It was... brilliant. Its certainly a big car, inside is genuinely massive - rear leg space look liked it would give a full size Range Rover a run for its money. However it was not hard to place on the road and while it didnt 'shrink around you, it just felt like driving a big estate.

The tech (which i'm usually a fan of) appeared to be brilliant. The main screen's display graphics and resolution was fantastic with no lag - one of my main issues with modern car infotainment. The heads up display was an annoyance which im not a fan of. The lane and brake assists were not an issue as mentioned above so perhaps a firmware update has sorted this. I was told apple car play is coming in a firmware update soon, as is netflix. The car has Spotify (and i believe apple music?) which i've been used to driving a Tesla company car for the last year, so for me carplay isnt a bother either way now. The camera based side mirrors looked like a waste of time, but, there was no ugly blanking plates or odd spots in the car with traditional mirrors which was nice. Was very impressed by overall fit and finish and materials used particularly on the car with the upgraded black leather.

performance wise - the base / S was more than fast enough with 600bhp. For how big and heavy it is, it has no right to be that fast but it does and its brilliant. I'd hazard a guess the R would be complete overkill and just for bragging points, but if the wallet allows then why not.

The stock car i was interested in was Grey, 23'' diamond cut wheels, the upgraded black leather (forgot the name) with comfort seats.. and it was epic. £107k with 5k miles on it.

Sat and ran some figures and in 4 years with 12k miles a year, it had a GFV of £55k. Not actually that bad for a non mass produced EV (in the grand scheme of things) however, it threw out some pretty salty monthlies so im currently shopping around to see if i can better it. So far Lotus' own finance (through Apollo) is by far the best.

lastly and my biggest issue - i'm the rare breed purchasing as a private buyer as opposed to putting it through a business. No vat claimbacks, no incentives - i dont see how anyone is making these purchases privately really.

On a side note - if anyone is interested in an Eletre and local to Bristol, a highly recommend seeing Ashley or Jon. Both fantastic guys. Jon gave me all the time in the world and left the pressure tactics out.
