There is something refreshing seeing a car you can buy with no frills, brutalist design and so utilitarian, basically a modern day Lada Riva - what is there not to like...and steel wheels are friggin' cool as!
They are still going..... so would.....7500 in Russia....biggbn said:

OK. I am coming out.
Am I missing something here?
It looks like motoring heaven. I must be going mad.
Well at least you have a Porsche to cheer yourself up after driving the Datcha' Duster - no matter how many times you say it out loud no one is going to believe you on this!Am I missing something here?

I've got a Dacia Logan MCV and it's great! It's got all the required toys like sat Nav and blue tooth, cruise and parking sensors. Enormous boot. 20 quid a year road tax.
I might get a duster when I want to replace it although the boot isn't all that big in the duster.
The dusters are sort of classless really. In my mind's eye they are driven by cheap skates like me but also by people with money who just don't gaf

I remember Russel Bulgin writing an article for car on the joy of driving a base spec supermini to the outer edges of its ability and beyond. Given all this usually happens at acceptable speeds and that the skinny tyres grip will run out lomg before anything really stupid can be done, it teaches car control, anticipation, really driving a car on its doorhandles!! We bought my daughter a 15 plate three door Kia Picanto and it had the same thrash and forget feel as the early pandas and kas had. More fun for less!!
Ok, it's not the most PH worthy car but.... any words of wisdom?
We're probably looking to consolidate a couple of cars (a 15yr old Suzuki Vitara and a 2 year old Toyota Aygo) so are looking at something to cover the bases of a cheap(ish) reliable car to potter about in but can also fit a dog or two in if needed.
A local Dealer has a low mileage 68 plate 1.6 Dacia Duster Prestige edition which looks nice and chunky and seems well equipped. Unfortunately I know nothing about them, don't know anyone with one, have never driven one (and can't yet have a test drive in this one) and am not sure what the competition to them would be. Visually it seems ok to me, the interior is on a par with the Aygo in terms of plastics, and it doesn't need to be particularly sporty.
Other than that, I'm open to advice and pointers
Edit: Thanks Mods for moving. I've never needed to use the Car Buying Forum before so forgot it was there. Ooops!!

There's some mention of them here: https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...
I get the impression that 1.6 & Prestige might be missing the point a bit.

I had an Access 1.6 petrol 4x4 version when they first came out. Drove better than 2x4 diesel I had the chance of driving. Very basic plastics. Needed to be thrash every where to make progress and was very thirsty. Had it for two years before passing on to my mother. I liked it. Now driving a 2006 Honda CRV , which is a better car than the Duster ever was. We're probably looking to consolidate a couple of cars (a 15yr old Suzuki Vitara and a 2 year old Toyota Aygo) so are looking at something to cover the bases of a cheap(ish) reliable car to potter about in but can also fit a dog or two in if needed.
