Anyone seen this? From the early shots I thought it was going to be a mickey take / for comedic effect, so was quite surprised by the finished item. Built by Andy Saunders

It's on Q plates so I assume this means it's been successfully put through an IVA. Just sayin'.... whistle

...still think it's as ugly as sin, mind

Why do I know the name Andy Saunders....

He build that and this...

By the way the replica was spoke about during the Le Mans coverage Euro sport. I cannot recall the name of the person, but he worked for Nissan and seemed to like the car! Well done Andy, for not doing the normal Top Gear piss take!

Now wonder what will happen to the real one and the replica?

Mainly know him from lots of custom stuff down the years (did he do 2CV Picasso or was that the other fella?); did not know he'd done replica of Stratos (is it a runner?).

Replica still an ongoing story on TG website, AFAIK real one has crashed out of LM

Saunders is a well established and accomplished custom car builder, has done loads of stuff - silly low minis amongst others.

Makes sense - you can see the bonnet line quite clearly.
Looks to be quite a decent effort, and being based on a Westie can be no bad thing.

If you look carefully at the overhead shot you can see that that's because it still is the Westfield only it's had some extra extensions made to the bodywork and the rear wheels have been brought out to make it wider at the back.

Good call - yes I see it now - in fact now you say it it's pretty obvious really! (still likely to need IVA unless he's stuck MR355 carlos fandango superwide spacers on!)

Yes you can still see it was a Westfield. Was this a new kit or an already build car that they just converted, in which case would it need to be re-IVA? Still looks amazing, do you think Westfield like?

How about a Westfield DeltaWing kit... just joking.

Well spotted; given TG's track record and the time frame involved (seems to have been built in ~6 weeks) seems more likely that it hasn't been (re)tested.

Delta wing running ok at Le mans until taken out by a back marker ,Jap driver worked on it for an hour ,being helped by mechs on other side of fence ,he got it back to the pits but retired ,was in tears Ithink with frustration .A lot of big names inc a cartain Dan Gurney behind it as well as development Nissan engine.

Seem to remember the show that built that beach buggy with shortened chassis and not registering it properly came in for some stick at the time...

That thing is well and truly into re-IVA territory! Interesting Andy's site covered the number plate up - perhaps TG have just forgotten to submit an amended V5 so far tongue out

I notice Andy does say the commission was for "road going" and not "road legal" *ahem*

Not quite. Got taken out by the leading Toyota and never made it back to the pits.

Would those headlights be close enough to the outside extremes of the car to pass a test?

Could be interesting coming the other way down a narrow lane at night.

This thread has taken me back to my youth growing up in Poole! Living not far from him, I used to pass Andy's house regularly and got to see his latest and weirdest creations like "Mini Ha Ha" and "Runaground" ....
