I guess that the 4x4 system in a real RS200 is very expensive, and haven't come up with another mid-engine 4x4 that would make a good donor.

Are there any 4wd replicas and what drivetrain would they use?

Have a look at this thread (the last page or so mainly) for a 4wd solution: http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

I followed that thread in Readers cars - loved that car! Red seats really set it off - sounds like it went to a good home, even if it is being mutilated!

Sounds interesting, guys! I'm a long way from building an RS200 (being a few thousand miles from 'home') but I'll get in touch if/ when the time comes!

Good luck with it and looking forward to seeing/ hearing more!

One of my biggest kitcar regrets is NOT buying the blue Kara RS200 I test drove in 2006, up for sale at £11k. I did not buy it as it really needed a complete stripdown and restoration . I bought my Libra instead...... I KNOW I would still own that RS200 to this day, dumb ass decision by me.

These things happen frown

As I understand it, the KaRa was one of the better versions too! Not trying to rub it in!

The one I drove was well-enjoyed 11 years old, on a Q, a wrong metallic blue, wrong wheels, interior badly done... but it was still one sexy car! The main reason I turned it down was the gearbox, it was horrible and wouldn't shift easily. The clutch pedal felt like a brake pedal too it was so stiff. It just looked like a lot of blood, sweat and tears to put it right and I bottled it. But it was quick with a 300bhp Cosworth Turbo and made all the right noises! As far as I know a chap bought it, just had it resprayed white with the rally stripes then the engine went BANG! But I do wish I had bought it still, I would have made a nice job of it eventually £££££££££££..............

That looks very nice indeed! Must have spent a few quid on the engine to make that power, reliably!

I'd probably rather build a lesser spec one (NA engine etc) in road trim (wouldn't have the intercooler 'ears' etc) for similar money though...

I can see that appealing to someone. Power to weight must be epic at that price point (2nd hand Boxster/ Cayman money)!

We have one on site for a customer
Mid engine RWD
Subaru powered with a 6 speed trans axle conversion
We have fitted a later Subaru dash, and retained all the creature comforts, very much work in progress but the customer wants teh car just so, so not rushing he wants a useable super car slayer..
Huge spec, 2.0 semi closed deck block with all the right engine parts (550 bhp spec)
Turbo tachnics s206 turbo, huge bespoke intercooler, etc etc
It started life as a KARA many many years agon , little left of original car as obviously most things been changed and altered.
I am biased but struck me that the flat four small size high output , weight dist etc all meant it was logical choice.
I will try and upload some pics if u want when i get a minute.

Now, that is awesome! Very much along the lines I'm thinking of with colour scheme and interior! Definitely keep us updated with how this progresses!!!
