If you are designing something think about the load paths. The pic posted above has some tubes in weird locations and a load path that will deform the top of the cage given a roll.
Keep it simple, keep the hip rail high (this will protect you in a side impact, keep load paths straight.
Were I to build new (and a play car) I'd copy something like the US offroad racing class 12 chassis.

Dreamshack are advertising rails for sale on Facebook and Ebay, they are probably taking orders for products now.
If they wont, or can't deliver the orders they have taken then they should refund the guys waiting, they haven't done that.

The problem with a class 12 is the same issue as with our rail - without a VW chassis underneath it, it's not road legal, which is the only way Dreamshack is getting away with rail frames + various engine and suspension combinations, because can still be registered as a Beetle chassis, although it's debatable as to whether some of them meet the radical-altered-vehicle regs, you certainly wouldn't with a full tube chassis, it'd be a full IVA job.Frankly, the chance of getting something like ours through an IVA is somewhere between slim and none.
As far as I understand it, so long as you don't structually modifty the beetle chassis then you can put what you like on the top. The odd hole to bolt stuff down I suspect is Ok, but as soon as you take a saw/welder to it you are in iva territory, otherwise it is a body swap and just needs a dvla inspection.
As for engine, there are many subaru ( non turbo and turbo) and alfa flat four and even porsche 911 engine swaps.
Others please correct if I am incorrect. This is my understanding but you will need to satisfy yourself before committing.

If you guys are still having problems getting dreamshack to deliver on promised parts or refund. Spend £5 on a domain name like, I dunno, dreamshaft.co.uk or dreams-shafted.co.uk for example and stick a single page site up listing everyone's grievances and unresolved issues and naming and shaming the owners.
I did exactly this for someone who shafted me for a 347 stroker engine from the states 8 odd years ago. After the site went up (I used his name as a domain!) I got more and more emails from disgruntled customers and just kept adding them to the page. A couple did get engines, some got nothing (like me - actually no, I did get a letter of apology from him that he was forced to write whilst in jail) but I do know it really $%^&ed him off judging by the emails he sent me, especially after he'd moved and was trying to get away from all the crap he'd left behind. Quite satisfying.
The deal is you take the site down after he makes good.
