Cheers pal,
I'm up north in Huddersfield but it'll be well worth the drive down
Grimsby is the record so far for a trip down to look ;-)

Depending where abouts they're from there is possibly 10 miles or less in it!

the sleeker, swoopier, and very much faster scooby based version will be taking shape soon

Will this need an IVA?

the version with full scooby running gear will yes. But a scooby engine in a low-built one of our vw rails wouldn't

Have you got anymore details on the new Impreza version?

Will it stay as a front engine set up?

I like the idea of no IVA with the Beetle chassis but really liking the full Impreza idea.

Also, what sort of time scales are you looking at with this new kit? I'm going to be based in Portsmouth until mid October and wouldnt mind popping in to have a look at it when almost complete.

Ive only just finished building my first kit car but the bug has bitten and need a new project! smile

It will be mid engined. The engine is too far fowards to make the front engined setup pretty! Timescale wise it's hard to say with prototypes, a few weeks before it is up and running

Are you looking to use the Scooby engine and 4wd gearbox with the drive to the rear locked off, similar to the SDR storm set up. That would be very cool (and very tempting) with an STI or WRX engine in it. 280 bhp/280 lbft in 700kg car = extra strength underpants !

Yes basically that's the plan! We have worked out a 4wd way of doing it too , but too expensive for now...

A few more questions from myself, this will be the last lot i promise smile

What parts of the scooby will the new one use? Obviously the engine and gear box but will it be using the suspension arms etc as well or will they be incooperated into the kit?

Any idea on pricing yet?

And finally....how do think it will do come IVA time? As there will be a lot of exposed parts will there be any sort of panels on it to cover them to get around the sharp edges criteria?

The more i think about it the more i can see one of these being my next project, im even scouring the classified for scoobies as we speak! smile

The engine, box, driveshafts, front hub assemblies will be used, running adjustable wishbones as part of the kit Also the front hubs. Not sure yet but hope to use the steering rack/column also if we can make it work. The handbrake etc will be reusable in the car of you want. The suspension will be available in two versions, conventional wishbones with outboard spring/damper units, or pushrod and inboard units. There will be a panel kit available but it will sit "inside" the tubes so you still have the skeletal shape
Pricing wise, I am hoping to do base version around £1600 a more comprehensive version for 2600, including dampers, etc, and I am keen to do a rolling chassis version too where customers can either supply donor or donor parts.

If you are looking for inspiration for the Scooby car then this may be of info - slightly different concept, more like the MEV Mevabusa, but interesting nevertheless -

www.warnercars.com

There is also the ASBO home brew rail/exo that was at Donnington last weekend, pictures in another thread in this section (yellow car).

The idea of a rolling chassis scooby based, mid engine, road based rail really appeals to me. Unfortunately did not get out to try and sort the MX6 bike carb engine last weekend, maybe next if it is nice. Idea of mating this to a boxster gearbox (has the benefit of the gear change system being in the right place) in such a car is now top of my list for a new project, can't wait to see pictures. I have the benefit of it being an early 1992 engine so it does not need any cat etc. and can run carbs for IVA (if my reading of the rules is OK).

I can even use the 17" wheels/tyres after a refurb/paint (5x114 lexus so should fit the scooby hubs) I have and the ETB digidash 2 I "won" on ebay at a good price, just need to find another Sabelt Montecarlo seat to match the one I have and I am almost there (in my dreams anyway).

I can see a cunning plan coming together, maybe for next summer if I can gain enough domestic airmiles ?

sounds like a plan. Boxter stuff is beginning to find it's way into kits now, they seem a logical choice with the low prices they are commanding these days

Good news, sounds like you have beenthrough a bit of an ordeal ?

No excuse now to continue developing those stunning machines if yours, especially the scooby one.

I think I am going to have to start scanning the classified fo STI's that are being broken.

Any plans to provide the Scooby Rail in a "kit in a box" package i.e. everything needed to build the kit leaving the buyer to recon the donor parts, pain the frame, bolt it all together, add fluids and then IVA. I have had problems in the past with sourcing kit from a wide range of suppliers and this options would be very beneficial to me.

All the best, an keep the good work up.

Yes it has been a bit of a nightmare, HUGE problems with the old criminal landlord, lots of police involvement to get our stuff out safe etc etc, but all done now!
Yes we plan to have the kits pretty much complete except for seats, wheels etc, and an option to buy those through us too. Some people enjoy the hunt for bits and bobs to finish a build, others just want it done in a quick, simple manner without having to work out what is compatible. Horses for courses I guess.
Right now we are finishing off things like fitting the lifts, and fulfilling back orders we got behind on, but we have a couple of corners of the workshop where development continues ;-)
