Stoneleigh Show thread 2013
Discussion
We went yesterday, as I am very interested in the GD Cobra with LS3 V8 power plant.
We seen a few really nice cars, our favourites were:
This was really nice, and based on a VW Beetle!
My wife and step son really liked this one, and I admit, it does look really cool in the flesh. However, when I asked about the engine options, the biggest powerplant you can use is a Toyota V6 - with supercharging, you could get up to 300bhp! Not enough, I thought. A car like that would need at least 4-500bhp.
Very nice though, just a shame about limited engine options...(It is based on MR2)
This JBL looks pretty cool, too - I really liked the looks, old and new combined. Would be a lot of fun with a BMW M3 powerplant, I bet..
This is what I want, a Gardner Douglas Cobra with the GD Euro Mk.4 chassis and body, coupled with a Corvette LS3 V8 and 6 speed gear box:
The last few pics of the Cobra are actually AK Motorsport - as frustratingly, GD didn't have on show their GDEuro chassis, which was disappointing...
Anyway, those were our four favourites, now for the rest....
This paint job will set you back at least £5k!:
Another GD model:
A 3-seater!:
I don't think this is a replica, is it?:
..And this?
Forgot what this is..
The paintwork for this Cobra was very nice in the flesh, if a little different...:
Way too 'Bling' for my taste..:
GT-40 replica:
Mid-engine mini with K-Series VVC:
There were squillions of these about...:
Random pics of cars at the show:
And finally, it seem someone lost their socks!
ETA - we did intend to spend 2 days at Stoneleigh, but TBH, there weren't as many stalls as I thought (half of the stalls seem to consist of rusty old exhaust bits for sale at extortionate prices!)

Evening fuoriserie and other contributors, I went on Sunday. Excellent show wonderful weather the sun shone and I smiled.
As usual Stuart Mills has done it yet again with a new book out on building Kit Cars and a new Replicar product which is by far the best kit car I have seen for some time. Loosely (very loosely) based on the Aston Martin DB2 made famous in the 1950's at Le Mans it is evocative of that car IMO. It is not a copy! I can only admire the energy drive and enthusiasm of SM for everything he does. In fact I was so impressed I am going up to Nottingham specifically to examine the car in detail and to discuss buying a complete kit from Stuart. Which considering I already have fourteen Kit cars and Classics, is complete madness, but I am!
The rest of the show was interesting and varied. I was genuinely impressed with several of the cars on the 750 stand including the Wildmoor DM 1 which seemed exceptionally good looking car with a svelte profile, I shall watch that with interest. The Stafford Vehicle Components boys had all the usual gear and I got some good bargains for fettling my latest acquisitions. The standard of finish in the exhibits seemed very high indeed and I think a good time was had by all. It certainly was by me and my compatriots.
Now, when is the next show, it could be sunny again!!!

Absolutely fantastic weekend, it was brilliant to see packed isles and packed roadways and packed fields. I was delighted to note that no one fell asleep at my seminars and it was great to meet some of the PHers. We did sell 4 kits which is somewhat below our record of 16 two years ago but hopefully we will see more orders coming in the following weeks. Replica was launched. Hope everyone else had a good show and a good time. I did get some stick in my pale blue suit! Newark next, only 6 weeks.
Not a kit, but how can you argue with a 700bhp Noble made largely from carbonfibre?
Still not a kit, but wow....
Special rather than kit. Clearly Herald/Spit, but that interior!! Old or made to look old?
Finally...a kit. Ten years on and Richard Oakes design still makes me happy. I can't see myself parting with the little thing...ever. Thanks to my son for the photo.

Yes. A Phantom GTR/Vortex/Whatever! BUT this one was electric. The show is not what it was like in the glory days. I'm sure 90% of the people there had attended when I first went in 1985.

As for the quality of the show, we thought Sunday was brilliant, really busy, lots of positive people about, as normal the Monday was quieter, but was still a good show.
In the nicest possible way, I'm glad you weren't there Italo: saw your thread and would have been annoyed if I'd missed you...
Some pics:
and is that Lewis beside him?
Understated..... for Colani
JMC, bonus points for guessing f&r lights
Kaipan
MEVster, now available with roof
non-kit cars
FBS Census - age has not diminished its ugliness
(apologies for thumbnails but can't persuade embedded uploader to work)
@ChrisWatton: colour balance on your camera seems to be off - too blue, quick auto adjust with Irfanview attached but you might want to check settings...
