Single Seat Road Car Kit. . is there such a thing

Had it in my mind for a while that single seat road car could be a fun thing to do. I suppose in crude terms the basis of which could be an ex formula ford or similar as an example, made road legal. . then i wondered if there is such a kit car that has taken this idea forward. . .in the words of Top Gear. . .how hard can it be !! (gulp)I was hoping for something that resembled a Lotus 25. . .i guess a Light Car Company Rocket is the 'buy it done' answer, but at £40 K plus. . .if you can find one, thats beyond the Benters purse. . .any kits out there that might be worth a look ??

There was something called a roadrunner I believe which looked like a FF car - only ever seen one and don't know if they are made anymore.

A local gent here is building himself from scratch a Brabham BT23 replica with a 5.7L LS1 and Audi 5spd box in the back

Hard bits are going to be steering rack, though I suspect there is more single seater racks in the UK than anywhere and rear uprights. If you speak to some of the local kit car manufacturers you might be able to turn something up for reasonable money

I love the BAC mono. . .i think its going to be on Top Gear this new series, in the 'taster' clip it looked like there was one shown. Thanks for the links, there are certainly some clever people about. I look forward to looking through the additional info.

I have also thought about this one. Was thinking perhaps a Van Diemen, one on ebay without engine now i think 6500 for a 2011 car. A good basis, the cars usualy have about 40mm ground clearance to would need altering but not too hard as fully adjustable. Fan for cooling, Dash2 for you instrumentation as that one is road legal, lights not a problem, fenders not too hard to do. All in all a bit of work but i think dooable. There is a US kit, the RCR Nemasis that is realy nice but you would have to import one. Looks realy nice

Road Runner Racing are releasing the sequel to the SR1, the LM1. Actually, there's not a lot of information on the webpage, their Facebook page is a better bet.

morning guys, some great info there. . .favour the old FF route as its gets you well into the project in a single hit, will explore the ads close season and see whats available.

Make sure you have a good, hard look through the IVA manual before you do. There might be all sorts of things on a race car which don't comply with road regs. Things like the steering column could be a right pain to sort out.

I suspect things like exposed suspension arm radii would be an arse, too.

I'd be fascinated to see a project like that though. I'd love something like a road legal Formula Ford for pottering to work on sunny days.

i haven't read them either, but i guess it would need to be collapsable column, and prob air bag as well. . .but a read up is in order

Perhaps the colum but you could bodge something and put it back after. Cant be air bags as the Caterham, Atom and Morgan does not have them
