Hi All,

Been looking into the feasibility of using Smart ForTwo/Roadster seats in my car as the belts and buckles are mounted to the frame and they are a nice small package. Having looked through the IVA manual though it doesn't really say if I can use them, I don't think, I might be wrong! Can anyone give any clearer direction please? Do I have to have buckles etc mounted to the frame? Many thanks...

I've not seen the seats to confirm the dimensions and position of the belts comply but in principle you can use this type of seat.
What you do have to do is put even more care and attention into the method of mounting the seat.

I think you should be looking for at least 6 M8 high tensile fixings per seat or M10 if possible as the leverage of the seat is high. The fixings will need to go into the chassis in some way.

I'm sure there's something in the IVA manual about seats with integral belt mounts.

Thanks All, I'll have another read of the IVA, I may have read an old issue!? Thanks again, just found out that it is just the inboard buckle that mounts to the seat frame, the belt itself IS on the chassis.. The plot thickens....

Remember if you are using 3 point seat belts they have to be inertia reel.
