They all have their merits but best advice is to have a drive/passenger ride in as many as you can to get a flavour of what you want.

My first one was a 1700 x/flow engined car (a narrow body) which I then sold and built a Megabusa.

The clutch action can be made better on the Megabusa cars by using a different slave cylinder (Nova Racing) or by redrilling the clutch pedal. Loads on the WSCC about that.

Gratuitous picture of mine

Oh now we're talking! Loved my old beamer! I know most will say a 2l zetec will be 'fine' but I guess I'm just slightly unhinged and need something a bit more lol
If you were to consider a 4 pot variant, I suspect you will want something 200bhp+. Anything less, while plenty quick enough through the twisties, will likely lack pace in a straight line. Mine has just shy of 150bhp and lacks the torque for it to feel like a fast car.

I have a 225 BHP Westfield and is is great, but just make sure the cooling system on what you buy is up to the task. It has taken a lot of cash to get mine to cope with prolonged track use without getting engine temps creaping up.

In short don't just chase BHP make sure the overall powertrain system performance has been considered.smile

Have a look at MNR
Track focused, well designed and built

Big V8 in a 7 (5L?!?)you are totally missing the point Colin Chapman would be turning

It's all about personal taste and BHP per tonne
If the Duratec is good enough for the 620R then I may look to it form my next engine build

I'd be looking at a private buy for any kit car, the biggest factor in how good it is will be how well it's been put together and cared for which you can often judge easier by meeting the actual owner.

I'd also say 4 pot car engined is the way to go for a track biased car, Dura is the default choice but Zetec, S2000 or even a good redtop could be decent options.

I was going to suggest a WSCC search for Toybox, that sounds exactly like their reputation.

I wasn't too enamoured by Toybox when I was looking for my Westfield.

I, like you, was coming from a powerful rear driver, mine was a BMW M6. I knew I wouldn`t be happy with something with 200bhp and wanted something truly uncompromised as it is just a fun car for me and will be lucky to do 1000 miles a year. I looked at the f85 Raptor at http://www.sovereigncarsales.co.uk/Replicas_gridpo...

but I wouldn`t feel right in something so blingy. I ended up buying a Cosworth Turbo powered Westfield that had just been completed. It`s running about 430bhp and 630kgs and is truly the fastest thing I have ever been in by quite some margin. It`s also quite the most expensive car I have owned by quite some margin as well! Westie`s up around the 450-500bhp mark need constant fettling and attention.

Blimey, that Cossie is some beast!

I was looking at the various options for a while as well, wanting something a bit more track focused that I could tinker with here and there and would also be fun on the road. In the end I ended up acquiring an early narrow-body car from a friend of mine with, of all things, a Fiat Lampredi 2.0 TC lump. Bit out of left field, but I just love the noise it makes and with around 170bhp it's plenty quick biggrin

Lampredi engine is indeed a cracker, very crisp sounding and eager to rev. Looks a lovely motor.

Mine currently off the road having a rebuild. Possibly looking at custom inlet and exhaust manifold and probably Pectel ECU.

Warning to all rolling road tuned cars, you pull long enough on the road in 5th and it WILL run lean unless your mapper is skilled enough. I raced a 650bhp GTR and melted a piston. But I did beat him!

Andrew was on holiday around that time. Keep at it, he's a bit left of field with his call returns, but having met him (and bought a car off him) I know he's ultra busy at the moment. One of the nicest and most genuine blokes I have ever bought a car from....

I wouldn't bother with the WSCC they are a bunch of miserable old gits.....As for Westfield themselves, don't ever bin your car...their parts dept/customer service is appalling.

Well, I'm a member of WSCC and to be fair, I am indeed a miserable old git. Mind you, there are plenty in the club who aren't. Like most groups, don't expect to get on with everybody all the time.

The WSCC certainly has an older demographic than some other clubs but it is a good club. The second part all too true sadly. Thankfully there aren't that many parts that are only available from Westfield but they are some rather important bits.
