It appears that Grovsenor have cancelled the Malvern Show.

A shame as this was the replacement for the cancelled Exeter Show.

That means that Donington is the last show of the year.

Is it a surprise though after what happened or lack of around kit fest. Kit car shows are pretty dead tbh apart from Stoneleigh and Donny we lost what 4 Newark/Exeter/detailing and Stafford a few years ago now the failed attempt at kit fest and Malvern.
The industry is simple not strong enough to support shows on its own, instead we should be consentrating on bringing the best to general car shows far greater audience than kit car shows.

There's not just 1 single fault that's causing it there are a few which I could create a large post about but ive better things to do on a sunday night.

My experience while building my exocet is a good one stuart and mev are a great company but 1 company cant do everything and its hard to see the other manufactures support tbh or fresh ideas coming to the table. The only other company that's is bring new things to the table is tribute automotive and the biggest plus point is no iva which is a factor of the decline in kit cars.
The mrs200 kit is a really interesting one and something I may build in a few years need to iva the exocet first hopefully this winter as its all sorted bearing swapping out the st vlsd to a torsen diff. Will be going for its first outing at my local track very soon.

May sound depressing but I can not see it getting any better.

I'd be interested to know why it was cancelled before it had even been tried out at the new venue.

Presumably not enough support from manufacturers and traders but I'm only guessing.

I know a couple of the smaller end manufacturers and basicly they wont do the shows because its a week lost plus expenses so its not surprising really that they don't go . Time of the year is also a factor both Detling and Exeter suffered with this and also being a little out on a limb for some people to travel , I dismissed both as living in the north midlands makes no sense for a visit to a show ,my ops only and yes there are many who would travel in the snow but I'm not that commited ,brave or plain daft

That is a shame, i was planning on going to this show as it seemed to be in a good place to get to.

I don't understand why manufacturers do not want to do the shows, they must see that if the don't show their products then who will buy now and in the future, being somewhere that potentional customers can talk about the product and see the product is what will increase their business.

It is companies like MEV that can see this and use it to the best potentional it can offer, can't others see that.

Little rant over, I just get so frustrated when shows are cancelled.

I think the time has come now where kit car shows MUST me tagged onto some other show or event, or race meet? Or they will just not happen. Not necessarily a bad thing, as it could introduce a whole new crowd to the joys of kit car ownership. How about in Marquees at Brands Hatch, Silverstone or Donnington when there is a proper kit car race meet on, and maybe a lunchtime track parade of kitcars? Makes me sad whan I attent a show, and especially to see what Detling descended into, when I got into the scene in 2002 it was a cracking show.

This is a good point manufactures cant complain due to lack of interest if they don't attend shows, kits cars unlike other hobbies cant be bought via visting an online shop to pick a load of options etc. They decide what kit to build if that be a 7 rep, cobra or something else, get a budget together then find who makes them. Then visit shows to talk to the people making them, siting in them or if I could be done a little test drive.
If they don't attend you aren't going to get any people interested with it. That's how the likes of mev and tribute automotive are successful they are at all the shows so people can actually see for themselves what they are getting into.

If something isn't done the industry will be dead within 20-30 years.

Lee, may I ask what made it a cracking show in 2002 and what went missing as it descended into its final form?

Just curious.

As someone that was involved in making kit cars some years ago I can see this from the manufacturers side

Most manufacturers have verry low produtions at low margins

The cost of having stands at shows cost quite a lot over the weekend
Not only do you have the stand costs at so much per Metre but there is the costs of getting staff there as well as the show car
Then there is accomodation over a longer period. The show may open at say 9:00 Sat morning but the stand has to be up and ready by then, so often there Friday, or at the verry least in the early hours to set up
There is then the costs of getting there, often some many miles away.

Regarding all those enquiries, 90% of the time it's either someone trying to pick your brains on how you do something that has taken many hours and ££s to develop. Or Booooring you with how they modified there car just using a Knife and Fork

Multi ply that by how ever many shows during the year you can see why most now only do the main shows now

Also we often have a life outside the cars so working Mon - Friday and shows at weekends isn't fun

Just glad I'm out of it now and just have a rome arround when I feel like it
