Hi all

I'm going to take a look at this tomorrow -> http://www.mandmautomotive.co.uk/used/AC/COBRA/AET...

Firsty, anybody know this car?
Secondly, a check on the reg brings this up as a 'Daimler'; is this wrong/undesirable/nothing to worry about (I know the underpinnings are all Jag etc..)

Any prompt advice on the above and generally what to check when buying a kit such as this would be greatly appreciated!

Cheers,
Ben.

Incorrectly registered cars can cause all sorts of problems. Be yery careful, check the V5. I'd walk away if it just says Daimler.

It should be registered as AK Sportscars.
If it's registered as a Daimler or Jaguar (Of which it doesn't show up as any of them on the DVLA website)then it really should be avoided.
An actual look at the V5 is an absolute must for this car.

OK thanks. So, if it's registered 'Daimler' or similar, what problems does that cause?!

Worst case you would have to put the car through and IVA test.

Excellent. Seller has just emailed me a copy of the V5 - registered as 'AK Sportscars AK427' smile

Just need to see the car now. Any pointers on (apart from the obvious) things to watch for?

I have just checked the DVLA records and it is registered as a Daimler Sovereign 4.2. The date of registration is 1983, engine size 5700 and the body style is 'sports'. Something isn't right here; be very cautious.

That's good news. It looks a lovely car. As for pointers on this particular car I would try the Cobra forum. Good luck.

Hmmm...
Took a look. On the face of it it looked very nice, although could have been cleaned up a bit. The 'salesman' made no effort to try and sell it. It was parked right in the middle of a collection of cars, no intention to get it out into the sun or even start it, let alone allow me a test drive apparently unless I put down a deposit.
I took a look under - very low sump (not sure if that's normal) had been clearly whacked, with a large-ish pool of oil.

The owner of the business gave me no history of the car and claimed he knew nothing about it when questioned. I did get a large lump of paperwork to work my way through on my own. Suspension advisories seems prevalent...will stop there.

I walked away, partly due to listening to my head and partly due to the seller's lack of interest in selling it. Plus I know they paid £17,900 for it in an auction 2 months ago.

Looked nice but I'll keep looking.

i kept quiet with saying anything about prices....when i clicked your link a few days ago my first thought was: however this car looks conditionwise its around 5-7k too expensive....

and now you confirmed it...they bought it for much less...did nothing with it, besides rizing the price.

i would search privately...such type of cars at dealers are always overpriced

whats about this one:

Yes, I'd pay no more than 20K for it. They're even using the same wording (exactly) as the auction house they bought it from two months earlier!

Saw your link, nice, but I'm after something more specific - in fact I'm kicking myself as I missed a very nice Dax for 23.5K a week or so ago. Private sale, bang on price but not surprisingly it's now sold.

I'll keep looking until the right thing comes up wink
