You may struggle a bit with the weight, especially with driver in it and fluids!

I was just ribbing you but my emoticon didn't come out!

My money pit Westie is 630kgs wet weight and over 500bhp giving 793bhp/tonne, but when I sit my fat arse in it that goes down to 684bhp/tonne. No one seems to quote the weight without driver though which makes a huge difference in cars so light, I'm like 15% of my cars weight.

Only 684 bhp/tonne that couldn't pull skin off custard LOL.

I'm running around 220 bhp and 600 kg giving about 350 bhp/tonne which is nice and useable on the road. Must resist the supercharger conversion...........and the end of my marriage

Too much is never enough! Reading back what I put there I meant no one quotes the power to weight ratio WITH the driver. Baby brain......
You`re right in the sweet spot with that power to weight, I bet it`s lovely to drive. Trust me running much more is just silly>>>> smile
It get hugely, revoltingly expensive searching out more power. Don`t do it.
I`m on my second rebuild because of weak links in the chain. Hoping to sort that out now. Hoping to be first cossie engine Westie with and EFR twin scroll turbo.....if we can make a twin scroll manifold fit. Then depending on finances (wife!) solid lifters, H beam rods and light forged pistons, a upgraded charge cooling system and possibly water meth injection run by Motec ECU.

Wow that's some serious work going on there.....not bad for a twin cam pinto lol
I think you are proof that too much power is never enough. But hey wouldn't life be boring if we all settled for mediocrity?
I want to ask some further questions but dont want to carry on hijacking this thread. Have you got a thread for your car ?

The good bit of this story is that your purchase forced you to create your own car, so the seller did you a favour.
No matter what you buy you need to put your stamp on it.

Four years ago I bought a part finished project and last year I got it through IVA and last week its first track day, it was okay and needed some more slight fettling but it has about 280 bhp per ton.
However when I bought it I only wanted the MX5 turbo lump and sell the rest but just had to finish it.................and now I love driving it.
Oh here it is before finishing.

I think you will struggle to get under 600Kg let alone 500Kg. You'll need to be in the high 300BHP range to get your 600BHP/Ton.

Nice build! I run a locost with a CA18DET engine as they were miles cheaper than the SR20s (and very very slightly lighter), 620kg WITHOUT driver and 262bhp. Goes very well; is it enough - never...but there's a fine line between power/reliability and cost and I think I've got it spot on at the moment.

My build thread is over in the 'Readers Cars' bit smile

Good thread. Turbo cars really upset the balance on a 7 type track car, a powerful n/a car gives much better driveability and Lap times.

My duratec westy was 570kg before it's current diet, target is 500, and power is being upgraded to 300bhp from it's current 270. The lightweight side is equally as expensive as the power side though.

Carbon panels, lithium battery, turning down fasteners. Light brakes etc

Life isn't all about lap times, different strokes for different folks.

Surprising to find such an opinionated 7-owner. 7s are all about individuality and making a car to suit you or your needs.
