Mind if i ask what type of figures this total build has cost?

Have you got a build thread?
Agreed, more info please!

Jeff is playing down exactly how much work has gone into this car!

The bodies are nowhere near straight (he remade the bonnet!) and the gaps need a helluva lot of work to get anything like what you see here PLUS Jeff has reworked the door line and blended the sill to look more like the inspiration. Custom fabricated stainless door frames etc.

He's worked really hard on this and it shows - currently the best Tribute SWB on the road. If you want one like his then you need him to make it for you.

Well done mate - stunning! smile

Simply gorgeous.

Does anyone sell turn-key cars for those of us with zero ability at kit building? I want something like this when the day comes to sell my current car.

I do realize that it is not in the same bracket as the Automirage one, but here is one I made earlier.

It's a shame that this car was an attempt at a replica. Any one who knows their cars would know it's not a Ferrari so ditch the bonnet scoop and other air inlets and just don't bother. As a stand alone car it would look great. Thank god it hasn't got Ferrari badges on it. Why do people feel the need to replicate when the car could be great without the copycat panels.

It's not a replica,

Even the Automirage one which is dimensionally correct is not a true replica due to wrong engine, box, chassis etc.

I accept my car for what it is, a look a like ,when people ask me what it is I say a Tribute to the SWB car.

Most people love the car it has had some really good feedback, with out the copy cat panels it would look like a BMW Z3 convertible, where's the fun in that eh ?
I wouldn't want to own a Z3. They're OK but just not something I could live with. This though, I'd happily drive every day. It's a credit to the owner.

I'm a fan of the GT40, Cobra type replicas, some of them really are very hard to tell from the originals. I must admit, that this is a damned good attempt at at Murci but....and it's a BIG BUT....

HOW MUCH??? yikes

I agree, is it possible to have a turn key car built. I restore cars but simply don't have the time to build one and I'd definitely use it as my daily car.

@Jeff666 can I ask what wheels those are you used, your car is simply perfect and the wheels are perfect for it.

As someone who has been restoring cars for over 30 years I tilt my hat to your skills. I followed your build with great interest and yours is the car that has me totally inspired to own one.

Thank you for sharing

I'm sold on the styling but can I ask how they drive & perform? Is it just Z3 in a prettier frock or has having a roof changed things?

I have nothing against replicas if they actually accurately 'replicate' the original. This Ferrari looks NOTHING like an SWB, it doesn't fool anybody so why bother? It's a great looking stand alone car and yes, it is a credit to the owner, so loose the 'Ferrari' additions to the bodywork or it will always be a poor imitation...or a 'tribute' as some may call it! This car is no better a replica that those awful MR2 Ferrari 458 abominations. I can't remember the Lamborghini you were referring to (the link doesn't take you to it) but I am pretty sure it was a pretty good copy that would fool most people, after all that's what a replica is there for.

For the second time,

It was never intended to be a "replica" it shares some bits with the original so what ?
I like the car but why bother 'sharing some bits from the original'? People who know about cars will always look at it and think that's it's a nice car but a poor copy of an SWB.
I'm just saying, I have obviously upset a few of you but for me that's how it is.

Love how people start delving into posters car history's which they get the hump to see if they can find something on them. Yes, I have a Westfield and yes you could say that it's a poor copy of a Lotus 7 but I don't mind and neither should the owner of the Ferrari copy in question. As long as he likes it that's all that matters.

It looks ENOUGH like the original to satisfy many people who love the look of the real thing but will never be able to have one. No it's not exact, but it's also incredibly affordable - if you want an exact replica, you can have that, for ten times the price.

Why not make an original design? Because it's very, very hard to make an original design that's pretty - look at the kit car industry in general, full of slightly odd-looking things and almost-pretty cars. Plus nowhere near as many people would be interested in buying the kit.

I know bugger all about Ferrari and am actually interested in one of these due to the Z3 underpinnings. With ITB, cams etc an easy 240 brake will give enough performance and sound great. It's looks are of a period, as opposed to mimicking something exactly. Well that's how I see it anyway. I fancy a race car look in BMW Imola red, with MInilites and a side exit exhaust. (Not that I've given it much thought!) smile

Hi,

The wheels are just standard BMW winter wheels from good old ebay 7.5 X 17, I bought the spinners from ebay USA and just made the adaptor's on a mates lathe.

If you go on mad about kit cars forum and look at a Tribute thread called The Kebab, I basically copied what that chap did.

Glad you like the car, here is one I repainted recently for another customer.

Thank you for coming back to me. I actually registered on the Mad site a couple of days ago and seen your car which has me giving it some serious thought as I now know exactly what I want. And thank you for the info on the wheels, they are perfect. I've 4 other restorations ahead of me this year which was why I was wondering if turn key cars are an option. I'll need to go and do more sums.read

The convertible version

@e21mark - not sure how the cage helps the fixed head version, it should add torsional rigidity but was largely to help the A pillar/roof joint which is prone to cracking if solidly bonded - Jeff's solution is neat and avoids this however. My convertible rides like a Z3 only with marginally less(!) handling abilities due to wheel/tyre choice 16" x 215/65 sat on stock struts with Eibach 30mm lowering springs. That said they're Dunlop Blu Response and grip surprisingly well even when it feels the car is lilting hard. It is however a fantastically comfortable tourer - the extra sidewall helps smooth away the miles and sounds lovely with new cat back straight through system...

There will be a couple at Laon Historique this year
