Hi Guys,

I picked up a Westfield SEW yesterday and noticed on the drive home on the motorway that when I put full throttle, blue smoke comes out.

This seems worse when the car is cold. The car is fitted with 1.8L Zetec engine. My suspicion is that these are worn piston rings. I did not notice this before I bought the car as infact it is mainly visible on cold & full throttle. I do not think it is burning oil all the time (at least no significant blue smoke is coming out)

Any general advice on what do next ?

1) Engine Rebuild ? How much does this cost and any reputable specialists in the Kent Area?
2) Replace the Engine with another donor engine. How much would this typically cost and what is the best avenue to source a good, low mileage donor engine?
3) Replace the engine with a new engine. How much does this cost and what is the best rout to follow on this?

I assume plenty of people must have experienced this scenario?

Regards

Fadi

Depending on your ecu and fuel system, this may be the best way,

Just adcd time and effort to swap all the buts over.

If it's just at startup/cold could just be valve stem oil seals.

Would recommend doing a compression test.

Thank you. Cheaper than I thought for brand new engine.

Do you know (or does anyone know) if the engine mount positions between the 2.0L Zetec and 1.8L Zetec Engines are the same?

So is it a simple case of switch one for the other (+ move across the twin carbs instead of the Fuel Injection System)?

Thanks

Fadi

What carbs and ecu do you have. 1.8 typically uses 40dcoe whereas 2.0 use 45dcoe but depending on chokes they may be able to be made to work. Ecu for spark may be OK to start with.

Stop ragging it from cold and the issue will go away, other than that I would suggest its valve stem oil seals.

Infact - having driven it more yesterday, it is not temperature related.

Progressively worse with throttle position. Full throttle is clouds of blue smoke. Half Throttle - some blue smoke. Any less than that - no smoke.

I don't think not driving it hard is the answer. Clearly there is a problem!
