Hello,
I'm new here and I'm trying to learn as much as possible before I buy my first bec.
Right now I'm between a MK Indy RR or a BEC Westfield.
Does anybody know if the megablade and the megabusa share the same chassis?
Is the megabusa chassis the same from the beginning or are has it been improved over the years?
Thanks in advance

I think the Megablade and Busa both use the same chassis, just with a different engine cradle bolted in. There are enough differences in the installation though to make it not worthwhile to ever upgrade a Blade to a Busa.

I'm not sure about any specific improvements to the chassis, but as kits every car will be different - shocks, ARBs, wide track, brakes, uprights, reverse, roll bar / cage etc.

The main thing is to make sure it is a proper factory "Mega" chassis rather than a car engined conversion, and that it has the right shocks for the low weight of a BEC.

Kiltie would be a good source of information regarding a Blade to Busa swap as be did it with his Westfield. I know it required a number of parts to be purchased (including the engine mounts)but I am fairly sure it required no modification to the chassis.

All correct above.

Same chassis / different engine cradles.

It makes little sense to do it yourself. It costs a fortune. I kinda knew that but I wanted to do it anyway.

As I recall, some of the challenges as follows.

  • Paying for the dry sump kit.
  • Having to buy all the 'busa engine sensors I forgot to ask about when I bought the engine.
  • Fitting the oil tank and plumbing up the oil.
  • Relocating some of the stuff I had to move to make way for the tank (like the battery).
  • Cable clutch to hydraulic clutch - needed a special slave cylinder which came with the dry sump kit (Extreme Engines) but I can't remember why.
  • Re-plumbing all the water (needed electric pump as the 'busa water pump output used for dry sump oil pump).
  • HP fuel pump (carbs to injection) and then turned out I needed a swirl pot.
There were numerous other things I never considered before I started. An example is mechanical timing chain tensioner. I'd never have thought of that in a million years.

There are other wee things like clutch springs if the engine comes straight out of a bike.

I'd say price it up and then multiply by about 1.25 for what your turnout cost will be.

OP, don't hesitate to PM me if you want.

I think I have some pics somewhere which might help but at work just now.
