Hi,

As per the title, I was wondering if anyone had built a kit or a one-off using a Boxster or 996 donor.

I'm particularly interested to hear how you got the engine management system working: Did you transplant the stock ECU or did you use an aftermarket ECU? Were you still able to use Variocam etc?

Many thanks,

Chris

Boxster I can understand, 996 a bit to valuable for a donor I would have thought.

Can't help you with the technical questions, sorry.

You're going to get a lot of the doom mongers reciting the usual RMS/IMS,Bore scoring stories...

I spent a few hours at Autofarm the other day. Counted half a dozen 2.7 RSs and also got a chance to quiz them about 986 issues. The general consensus seems to be that bore scoring isn't a big problem on the Boxster/Cayman, but the IMS can be, albeit not to the extent the internet would have you believe. They showed me the results of some IMS-induced engine failures, including an exhaust valve that had embedded itself half an inch into the top of a piston. Ouch.
