It's appeared on the MB website so assume it can be ordered. No idea on delivery times or even if there are any demos to look at / test drive. ££55,695.00 as a starting point which is fairly tempting.

Agree. I don't like SUVs but 4wd is ideal in a car like this, would make it more sure footed when the sun ain't shining which here in Scotland is pretty much all the time.I might get one when they are a few years old, these new petrol engines are a lot better on fuel these days.

I have the 3.5 litre V6 petrol in the S212 estate, and I had the E350cdi before, the petrol is roughly 15% behind the diesel for economy as an average, and I do around 25k miles a year.
My quiet months out on the road are May and June, and during that time it is mainly doing the 6 mile school run and nipping into town and back etc. (which is 1 mile of town, 7 miles of dual and then 4 miles of town).
During this time my average has obviously dropped from 31mpg to around 28mpg, but interestingly the diesel used to get the same.
I am really looking forward to a nice E43 estate at a year or two old to come along at the right price.

Very well mate. Licence is long since back (over a year now after a nice spell off the road ane extended driving test)and back in a 231bhp 2010 E350cdi saloon. Had an S80 volvo but kind of missed the 6 clyinders. Jay sold me it. Insurance isn't that bad and under £1000/yr. You back in the market yet?

Only downers on the car stem from the seating (not as good as Volvo) and the car seems to do around 40mpg and is super quiet and smooth and its much more of a drivers car than the S80.

Its a good car, drives nicely and is very quiet. The seats I admit I am struggled to get a good position in but think I've found it. For £13k and 38k miles on the clock you wouldn't get better and its gearbox works the best of all the 7speeders, no clunks at all. Goes like stink when you hoof it too

Just out of interest, what sort of MPG are you getting from the 350 petrol. I get 41 so far average over 1400 miles in the 4 weeks I've had the car. Thats what it says but the reality is I suspect 35mpg is a fairer average to expect.Whats yours like on a long run through country routes and on mway. I seem to see anything from 35mpg to 46mpg depending on how enthusiatically I drive the car. I eneded up back in another S212 myself, a petrol E350 came up for sale, so had to bite.

I mainly do long motorway runs to Europe (done 3x euro trips in the 12 months I had the volvo to Spain, France, Switzerland) and many tours of Scotland but also some town running in which the diesel chews the fuel.
Refinement is a big deal to me and suspect if the petrol isn't that much worse on fuel it could be a better bet.

I have averaged 29.7mpg over the last 5500 miles on the OBC, calculated is actually slightly better!
It was at 31mpg for the first 3000 of that but the last 2000 miles have been all short school runs etc.
My early 2010 E350 cdi, 7g but non plus with only 231hp, used to say 36mpg on the OBC but calculated was 33mpg.
I tend to see 440 miles per tank round town, 500 miles as a more realistic average and close to 600 miles if I do some runs.
I think there is probably around 20% difference between the petrol and diesel for most people. You may see a bigger gap though as the petrol never seems to get much better than 33/34 no matter what.

And also a lot in main land Europe where diesel fuel is cheaper than petrol fuel. I've not had a nice petrol car for almost 10years. I kind of miss them but getting around 500-600 miles from the E350cdi and drive around 18-25k miles per year. Drove it round loch lomond last night, even giving it a few beans to overtake dawdlers it still returned 40mpg. Diesel it will be but might look at these performance varient of the 213 when prices drop. It looks a very promising car.
