Type 9 Gearbox Overhaul

I'm looking to rebuild the Type 9 in my Ginetta whilst it's out for an engine swap - it's a Quaife tinkered straight cut Type 9 - is this a DIY'able job? Never really meddled with gearboxes (have rebuilt carbs and done a few engine swaps so not too mechanically inept)

Have heard from a few people that a few Haynes manuals cover this gearbox - does anyone know of one that definitely covers it? I am guessing any that covers the Sierra should include it?

To be honest I would take it to BGH or Road and Race. They will have all the bits, bearings etc and it will be done right. My experience with gearboxes is that by the time you have bought the bits it costs nearly as much as getting a pro to fix it.

Recently had my Type-9 re-built by BGH (long first, close ratios, heavy duty gearset and bearings). Very pleased with the service and the product.

Gearboxes are a mystery to me but, just for the record, there is an article in TKC magazine, May/June '16 (pages 52,- 57) headed "Ford type 9 gearbox know-how with BGH Geartech"

Another vote for BGH from me. They did a type 9 with longer first gear for my XI. Really nice gearbox, and a pleasure to deal with the company.
