Hi guys

I am intersted in building a Ferrari 360 kit car using a MR2 as a donor car, I'm a massive newbie when it comes to rebuilds, conversions etc so I would love it if I could get some opinions on the following:

- Which model of the MR2 should I be using?

- In terms of kits, are there any particular good ones per say?

- Garages in and around London that are good for this job

Cheers

Whenever I see one of these it makes me wonder what it trying to be achieved. Are you hoping to attract girls?

As before, I can see the attractiveness of classic replicas of cars any very few can afford but modern classics I do not understand. If it is on an mr2 then the dimensions will be all out and it will look like a knock off. Also be ware if you are planning to travel to some European countries, they have strict counterfeit rules and some replicas have been seized and crushed.

As for getting a garage to covert it, if that was your intention then you may was well buy a real one based on £100 per hour and something like three weeks to build and that is without paint etc. One of the fun parts and challenges with a kit car is solving all of the build issues and putting your own bit of personality into it.

If you look at the totalkitcar website they have a model or donor cross reference list that will give you current manufacturers.

If you want to use the mr2 as a donor then any rear engine kit would accept the engine and electrics, look at the MeV cars and the Sylva j17.

Likewise, I was having a look around a Ferrari 360 rep the other weekend.

It had a fake engine cover the lot but it just looked wrong, fake H gate, fake buttons on the steering wheel but it just look all out of proportion.

Don't do it mate.

The worst thing I saw was at Stoneleigh a few years ago, a couple arrived in an Mr2 with Ferrari badges on it, they got out and they were head to toe in Ferrari clothing, really cringe worthy. I get it, you like Ferrari's, but you're not fooling anyone!

wheres a link to that dirt cheap Ferrari that ph Member bought a while back?

bet it was cheaper than the cost of this conversion.

OP don't do it, for what its going to cost you (sounds like you wont be doing it yourself) you could get yourself in some very nice cars i'd imagine

something like this

http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/j...

most likely cheaper than a MR2 with added fiberglass and Ferrari stickers too,

Please please please please don't convert one.

Take your time and buy a converted one, or leave the poor mr2 alone. They're becoming worth more unmolested.
There are a few converted ones knocking around and they do change hands now and again (once the owner sees the light smile

Search the forums and dare i say it the FB buy & sell pages for them.

Here's one, not cheap either.

(Cost is no indication of quality)

I find that the 355 replicas look absolutely fine - until you realise that they're all in 4:3 and a real one is in 16:9

I had a look around one at stoneleigh. I don't know which kit it was but from 10 feet away, it was good, very good in fact. Though move closer and you can see the reality. Fake brakes, fake engine cover etc.

Everything is given away once the mighty 4 cylinder fires into life too.

Don't do it, I agree with the above. It's just a little bit tragic.

I've seen some good 406 coupe based 360 replicas that look quite brilliant with nice straight panels and good fit. As has been said they're great until you start them up although the 3.0 V6 version sounds very nice indeed...apart from the engine being in the wrong place and driving the wrong wheels. I'm also a little bothered in it being used for a donor - I drive a 406 coupe and it really is an extremely pretty car in its own right.
