Extreme Cars Ferrari 360 Replica / Peugeot 406 donor
Discussion
I saw one of these at TKCLive, and they do look good. Having walked around a Ferrari dealership a few weeks ago, having sat in several 360's and seen/heard them driving around, the kit did look a lot like the original. Unless you parked it up next to a proper one you'd never know.
The one I saw did also have what looked like the Ferrari engine cover under the back window, although it did look a bit tacky and stodd out from what seemed like a tidy bit of kit!

Anyone interested in a 4 seater Ferrari could buy CLASSIC CAR or similar and checkout the classifieds. Original 400i's are often available at 15k to 18k. Proper V12 engine.Built in Maranello.Relatively cheap classic insurance.Admittedly not cheap to service though.Same money buys a GT4 or a Mondial. Why buy a dressed up 406 or MR2 looky-likey?
Somerled, you've certainly had an interesting collection of cars.
Thinking about how they drove, and how a re- bodied 406 might drive, all I can say is: I hope you get better soon.
OK, I'm biased. I hate replicas that are just a new dress. A 4 cylinder Cobra or Ferrari is like dressing a chimp in Versace.

Paul and co, I know what you mean, but I'm not against taking the looks of one car and applying it to another.
What I am against, though, is spending c. 20k to pay for a 406 to be turned into a 360. Apparently, that's roughly how much it would be - how can anyone justify buying a 406 for say 6k, then spending 20k tarting it up???
I'll save my 26k and either get another TVR, or go for a Corvette or Plymouth Prowler which I've been looking at!

For £26k you can get a genuine, reasonable 328 or a 308. The geniuine article, with the right engine in the right place and no need to be ashamed Cheaper Ferrari's are also available if you need 4 seats like the 400 or the other one, can't remember its name, the odd looking one usually for £10k-£20k.

but the practical side of me like the idea of 4 seats and/or useful boot.

Personally, I'm just after the practicality, and running costs, of a 406, but the styling of the 360 - a family 'Ferrari' (at least they're both pininfarina designed cars!).

Does not compute: Logic error.

lol... I meant I thought you could get one of the 'replicas' for c. 10k, all in, and have the styling of one car but the practicality of another.
For 26k I'll buy something fun and hold onto my 5-series for the practical side. Looking at the cost, if i was going to merge 4 seaters with styling, I'd probably go for a Cerbera... if I didn't think it would break down on me all the time.
Are all these replicas that expensive? I thought the whole point of a copy was that it was going to be cheap, not just less than the original.
If they cost this much, why do people bother? (Am only talking about panel/body-replicas here, not proper kit/custom cars). I'm surprised there's a market for it.

Thanks for the advice Busa_Rush ... not sure about delving into classic cars. Was really just exploring this side of the car industry before buying. I think I'll stick to more contemporary stuff and stop trying to be overly, errr, 'creative' with my choices.

I hate these types of cars. Having said that, I saw this one at Stoneleigh yesterday - it wasn't a bad effort, better than the MR2 based one.
Funny, I thought the opposite! just didn't sit right at all IMHO.
seconded. It rode too high, had awful fake big disc brakes and just didn't quite look right. Some of the MR2 355s look pretty authentic, even quite close up
very intresting reading, especially for me as i am seriuosly considering building one of these, i did a rough price up after talking to certain people in the know, it seems you could build it for around 14k which isnt too bad IMO as the real thing cost nearer 60k plus the huge running costs.
I havent seen the finished car in the flesh yet but from the pics it does look really good and very hard to tell from the 360 original, unlike nealry all of the 355 replicas which look crap to be honest.
If anyone has any more info on the 360 replica pls let me know!

Definitely look at it in the flesh before you consider! It might look like a real one in the photo's, I was impressed, but in real life despite the huge crowd it drew a heard more "ermmm, oh dear" 's and "how disappointing" than "wow"'s
I know there are lot on hear who are very anti rep's - I personally love a good replica, but this is NOT a good replica, it's a rebodied Peugeot in the same way the Fe-MR2-rari's are. Sure it has the looks about it but if you want a replica this isn't one.
