Nice I remember everyone pushing Jag to make a production version. I think I've got a pull out poster that Autocar produced somewhere.

It was a nice attempt to bring an XJ13 esque car into production.
I think it would have been a big seller.

It was shown at the Exeter kit car show and looks pretty imposing in the flesh. It was designed by Paul Banham (remember the name?), and it's not an exact replica of the XK180. He designed it by eye rather than by any measurements, but it looks convincing enough - especially as not many people will have seen the original Jaguar concept.

Crikey Mr Banham returns...... smile

Rebodying cars is his speciality and IIRC he started out modding the XJS. I part built a Banham and it was well designed I did all the cutting and welding of the metro base and then ran out of enthusiasm frown

I believe rebodies are an interesting niche, and in my opinion, we will be seeing more of them in the future.

Hopefully with original designs...smile

How much would a conversion cost do you reckon?

6.000 for the kit plus the car, it says that maybe you could have a complete build for 9.000

That doesn't add up to me, if the kit's £6K plus painting and a donor and finishing off then even if you were given a donor car then you'd struggle to make it work for £9k. More like £15k minimum, more for a supercharged.

Just thought i would bump this rather than start a new topic.

Anyone know where i can find some decent pictures of this replica? The website is atrocious. Cant decide if the angles look right.

Been thinking about one of these for years, perhaps with an accident damages XK as a base.

Holy thread resurrection!

I just came across an advert for this conversion. The website now has photos of their prototype. It states that the car is based on an XJ6 or XK8 floor pan cut and shortened by some 5 inches then re welded with some extra strengthening but "it does not require SVA testing" (!!). Really?

Well, technically it doesn't, to be fair: and he hasn't said anything about it not needing an IVA test, has he? wink

I would have thought that Mr Banham's previous escapades would be enough to convince anyone that rebodying even a crappy and undesirable car - never mind an XK8 - is simply the best way to make it absolutely unsaleable and turn yourself into a laughing stock.

I suppose there's always room for just one more deluded fool, though. Any takers?

Christ someone has the decimal point in the wrong place. They were a laudable idea but most were sadly doomed to be awful.

Sorry, last time their website was updated it WAS the SVA. The (or should I say 'one'?) worrying thing is that he suggests cutting the roof of a coupe as they are cheaper than a Cabriolet! So that and cutting 6" out of the floor pan doesn't require an IVA test because "there is no need for SVA (sic) testing in the U.K. as most XJS fixed roof and convertibles are registered as Sports Convertibles"!!!!
I wish I shared his optimism.
Now if Eagle could build one on an F-type floorpan. ...........
