Well having drilled a hole straight through my finger I have slowed down a bit on the etrike this week but I did go for a blast and loved it. Seems stable, excellent acceleration, brakes on front only at time of test so quite a challenge. Hope to be completing it next week and then stripping for powder coating the chassis. Will be making some GRP panels next. Then I will be taking it to Newark Show. It weighs only 154kgs inc battery pack and zooms up to its top speed of 48mph in less than 6 seconds. Its a great laugh. I have made room for 6 34ah lead acid batteries under the seat. With LiFe the kerb weight would be around 120kgs. The motor will put out a peak of 34 bhp!
Did I say its crazy.
To road register it will be classed as a 3 wheeled moped which makes MSVA as easy as it gets. You can even add a screen made of plastic if you wish.
The intention is to sell the chassis plans and GRP for £350 with assembly instructions, full contact details of suppliers of components. The GRP will be a nose, rear cover, seat, 2 wings and a small bulk head. So if silent performance floats your boat it will be a very cheap way of going EV. I reckon it will do 25 miles on a charge which is long enough for many commutes. The motor/(programable)controller/contactor kit is only $1450. Add some S/H quad/bike bits/tube/bolts etc and you could easily build one for less than £1500.

Stuart,

Will be looking forward to your pictures of the first kit on your website.

Great news.. I too look forward to further updates.

..Apologies for the cheek - but I dont suppose you have any jobs available, either now or in the near future? I am moving back to Retford soon from London and will be looking for work - something office/sales based ideally.

Cheers, Greg.

Sorry I cant offer any jobs at the moment, we have to keep our overheads low. When we get busy we put extra hours in, apparently we love it!
On the sneak preview note, it dont look that good at the mo. More like an accident in an exhaust factory. I made it from 20swg 30mm round tube so I needed a fair few components to form a rigid structure. I am a believer of the fact that you get only one chance at a first impression and those that have seen it prematurely have asked if its a 3 wheeled Rocket for kids. I hope thier opinion will improve when I apply a little GRP over the next couple of weeks. Dont get too excited though it will be minimalist, but one things for sure its a great fun machine provided you hold on tight to the handle bars. Bed time now, got to be up at the crack of dawn to inhale a load of filler dust and sticky all my clothes up with resin.

I have put a short clip on youtube, search mev etrike. Looking at fuel costs it will be 3p per mile. I think it looks like a baby Rocket with a wheel missing. Should suit the younger element. Could call it a Mev Pocket. Please let me have your views. Its very quiet, the noise is a plane going over. Regards Stuart

The design looks nice and simple, but I'm not so sure about the handle bars... could you have a steering wheel instead.?

Price of the kit ? is it available now ?

Italo It looks like the throttle and brakes are on the bars, with no foot controls.

Well I wanted to create something easy to build and as light as possible. It only weighs 154kgs inc batteries. By adding pedals/steering wheel/rack ect weight would go up and so would the cost. I am trying to encourage people to look at a low cost EV as a serious alternative and I am selling the fabrication plans, build guide, plus all tech detail and all suppliers contact details together with the all GRP and alloy bits. This lot will be only £350. You could build one for less than £1500 and run one for 3p per mile. The chassis drawings give the option to cut and mitre the tube if the builder wishes to save bending the tube.

Well its geared to do 50mph and with the SLA pack it will do 25-40 depending on hills driver weight etc.I reckon thats enough as to work and back for most will be enough range. Anymore than that and you could stick it in the back of your MPV and park at the edge of a con charge zone.

Stuart

I now undestand your concept, and the idea of a lightweight 3wheeler........... I could be interested in one...smile, do you have pictures of it on your website yet? or can you post a few for us to see here in the forum ?.

Looking forward to seeing more of it.!

The video looks good, I'm guessing the acceleration is pretty rapid with it being a motor? Seems to stop pretty quickly anyway, definitely looks fun - I really hope this works out for you!

Saw it today at Newark - couldnt get a particularly good look as the stand was rather busy! Did look good and at £350 for what's on offer seemed good value, although whether it'll be used as an 'eco' vehicle or just a bit of fun I'm not sure?

I also liked what I saw on your stand today:

I have been looking for something like this for ages, the etrike's not bad either.
If you can produce a frame, and sell the kit for say a grand I think you are on to a definite winner.....

I'll give you a ring.

Thats me in the background with tongue hanging out. Too busy to make frames but if anyone would like to start a business selling a few I am happy to help. Also happy to put an info pack together of design details, drawings, diagrams, suppliers details tech spec on various recommended motor/controller packs for PH's, say £100. Anyone good with a mig and a shed, please step forward. Come on lets get a few on a go kart track and start a mini race series. Everyone that had a go at the weekend came back with a massive grin.
